Take him for a car ride and stop at his favorite restaurant and get him a T bone steak.

Poor little puppy being smacked by a stranger at that!, and not knowing what the hell he's done wrong!Dogs sniff period! If i was him i wouldn't want to speak to you either! My dog is ten, and never known what a smack feels like.Firm commands are the way to train puppies.
The best way to get him out of this depression, cause thats whats wrong with him,is to leave him alone and let him forgive you in his own time.He has feelings and emotions just like we do.

Your brother is a wanker. If I were there I would B***** slap him myself. Drunk or not, no excuse for hitting a puppy who was only greeting him. Your pup has no idea what he did wrong and now the two of you are unpredictable and dangerous in his mind. Learning not to sniff intimate areas (human) takes proper training, not a wallop on the head. Congrats, your dumb brother just screwed up your dog and your relationship with your dog. If my bro did that to my dog, he would be out of my home in an instant!
You will have to train him to trust you again.
He is avoiding you both because you allowed your "dominant" brother to harm him and now he sees you and him as weaker and submissive to your jerk brother.
You are going to need to start by winning him back by showing him that you trustworthy. Give him extra treats and lots of extra attention. When your brother leaves, I suggest you re-build your relationship with your pup by enrolling in an obedience class and learn to work as a team.
Get your brother a book on animal and substance abuse and pray he gets some help.

WHY are you letting anyone apart from you tell and hit your dog? she is your dog,and there is never any need to smack/hit any animal! You only ever need to use a different tone in your voice. When your brother goes i think you should play and fuss your dog make her feel loved again. But remember only use your voice.Good look

The very first thing you should have done was smack your brother. Thats a very real sign of an alcoholic and one of the first questions asked at an alcohol screening. Do you ever hit or kick an animal when you are drinking? My sister is a councelor.

He should come around to you as soon as your brother goes back, may take awhile it will just take the puppy a lil time to realize that the one who hit him is gone. Just makes sure to give him some extra TLC and attention in the next few days.

Dogs are very sensitive - if you appear to be close to your brother, he will think you're ganging up against him because they are pack animals and get miffed at new pack memebers (like your brother) turning up randomly and getting privileges.
Even if you argue with someone in earshot of a dog, he will think he is being told off - they are just that sensitive.
When your brother leaves, he will get back to his old self if you put a bit of effort in.

ahhh, the poor sole will be confused. Two of you! When your brother goes away tomorrow, go down to your doggies level and play with him and give him lots of attention and a treat. I'm sure he'll be fine

You need to lie on the floor and let the puppy stand on or over you. This will make the puppy think its Dominant over you. Then play with it on the floor!
You gotta make the puppy think your being Submissive to it and then it will like you again.
