Definitely the weather, for one thing. Every New Year's, people see the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl, and see that the weather's nice, and want to move here. TV and movies give the impression that everything is all about the glamor of Hollywood (it's not).
And for the person who said that you have a good chance of being a celeb, the fact is that you have a miniscule chance. Only the really good or really lucky ever get a break and make it "big".
You DO have incredible diversity here, in terms of people and terrain. You have the beach, the mountains, and everything in between. The attitudes here are generally accepting, which is why there are more "nut cases" in SoCal. People are just more tolerant here, I guess.
Of course, the price we pay for popularity is terrible traffic all year, and some bad smog in the summer (although it's not as bad as it used to be).
If you want to move here, welcome. If you are tired of the hustle, feel free to move out. Perhaps some day, I may get tired of it, but today is not that day.

Because we have it all! We get great weather in the southern half and we have all types of terrain. You can go up to the moutains and snow one day and to the beach the next. And then we've got the rolling hills in Napa Valley. It really is a beautiful state.

They come for good weather, open minds, a chance to be a star, and many other reasons. They leave because it is expensive, people are often perceived as shallow (typically its not shallow...its just that people mind their own business and don't want to know yours), and because they miss seasons.

I live in New York and i have snow up to my waist waiting for me outside (and i'm 5'7), and my sister lives i California and she said it's nice and sunny there. I want to go to California.

Because it's beautiful out there! The weather is nice. I love La Jolla. I could sit and look at the ocean all day long.

Because its the best ever you have beaches and mountians and snow and desert and nice people and mean people and a mix of just about everything, anybody can fit in there.
