my husband wants a tattoo from his shoulder to the bend in his elbow. hes a fairly large guy. it will be black and gray. it is a picture of a buddah with 7 large snakes behind it, he will be holding a trident. the buddah will just be from the torso up and the snake will be wrapped around the buddahs waste 2 or 3 times. the snake will have a diamond pattern for scales. we were quoted 300 dollars. is this a fair price for upstate new york? and for the size and color.

My god.. $300.00 is cheap for something like that! Where I'm from I'm guessing something like that would cost around $400.00 or more... so yeah, he's getting a good deal. Especially since patterns on snakes are not easy.

Ok.....I'm going to speak up here. I'm having work done next month. The tattoo is going to cover from my shoulder to three inches above my elbow. Though I haven't seen the final tattoo I do know that he has set aside the whole day (8 to 9 hours) to do it.(It's a cover up of an old tattoo). My tattoo is going to cost me four figures. My artist is from upstate New York and I would say that he is quite reputable.
www.bretzarrotattoos.com. So even with a discount I would say something sounded suspicious about your deal. All of the artists I know charge a minimum of $100 per hour....and a tattoo that size is going to take more than 3 hours.... Yeah, I would think a tattoo that size would cost at LEAST 3 times that much.... Remember the old saying "A good tattoo aint cheap and a cheap tattoo aint good" ....

Hope this helped

Very, very cheap! I got a tattoo on my lower back, not all the way across, but farily good size, in black and white, and it cost me $350.
The tattoo sounds fairly big...and it sounds like it might have a lot of detail on it. I would think that it would run you in the high hundreds, maybe reaching the 1,000's. I would really go somewhere else and get another quote. It won't hurt to go somewhere else, and in the end, you will feel more comfortable with your choice. Good luck!

Well, my friends mom got a two letter tattoo, for about $100, so with that detail and the size, $300 seems like a good deal.

a friend of mine in south georgia is getting a new tattoo (she has quite a few)... it's going to be a pretty small one and it might cost her 100 dollars or more... She has paid around this amount for each of them, but like I said they were all small tattoos... It is very possible for a large detailed tattoo like you are talking about to be expensive.

yeah i think so. that sounds reallly elaborate. and i got a tatto, just a small black star on my lower back and it was 50$. so considering the size and detail of your husbands tattoo, 300 dosnt suprise me.

It's hard to tell without actually seeing it and all the detail.

Why not take it to another tattoo place to get a second quote.

yes this is fair and fairly cheap. suspiciously cheap. try going to a better place, for tattoos, usually more expensive means better, and this is one thing that quality matters, right?
