It's so difficult to listen to the fighting and bickering. Could we ever reach a point where we accept each other no matter what our religious or non-religious convictions may be, and just love one another for who we are. There seems to be 4 or 5 major religions and hundreds of smaller ones, can't we have mutual respect and honor for each. Maybe you belong to a religion that believes if you don't join a giant dagon will eat you and you feel you must save everyone from him before it eats them, isn't it better to show them through your life rather than the dragon threat. I admire the Amish, I went to visit them several Months ago because I was compelled through their simple honest lives, not one of them threaten me with something bad if I didn't join them. Non-believers, accept many believe in their own God, let it go, you may view them as dillusional, but it's their lives, let it go. Let us all accept the fact we are all human and we have the human condition and part of that condition

I am sorry to say, No. unfortunately the human race must war to srvive, we are a war mongering race. history proves it.
War creates economy, economy creates wealth. even if there was spiritual harmony on the planet, there would still be war.

I can live and let live but the religious can't. They want to change laws and make everyone in the world live by their rules. When their rules affect the progress of science and divide the people of the world.
Throwing stones is indeed bad. I saw this once on TV when in Ireland the laws had changed to allow Catholic and Protestant children to go to the same schools. This was a few years ago. One group ( I am not sure which) was walking their kids for the first day to the school and the other group (including adults) were actually throwing rocks at the parents AND their children. Makes me sick. So the problem is also with all religions. They are intolerant of any one who does not agree with them.
For the most part what takes place on this site is discussion. There are always going to be a few weirdos and *ss holes any where.
I would rather discuss a subject and come to no agreement than to come to agreement on a subject without a discussion.

We can try. However, the fundamental problem is that most of the popular religions are mutually exclusive, and require their adherents to preach to the non-believers, which goes against the respect that you write about.

There can only be unity in humanity (IMO) if all can put each others' humanity above their god-beliefs or disbeliefs. I think the majority of atheists are already there.

Hello. Let me just say that I think that your question is very profound. In my opinion there might be peace one day but through life there will always be at least one group of people at war with another. I also think that there may be no way to avoid some kind of conflict. Because any group might try to misinterpret something in their beliefs which contradicts that of another leading to conflict. It is human nature to be different in some way from one another.

I agree that people should show through their lives what their convictions are. The "Fire and Brimstone" thing doesn't work, and if it does, then people are simply trying to ask God for fire insurance. For Christianity, at least, everything is based off of a relationship with the Creator and Savior. Take the Father figure of God. If you wanted to please your father, you would not do anything to disappoint him. Same with God, who sees everything we do. Religeon is about a relationship with our Father, and therefore a lifestyle. It is not about preaching doom on non-believers.

I would sure like to think so. I attended a Unitarian Universalist Church not long ago. They are open to all......there were atheist, humanist, Wicca, Christian, Buddhist, Deist....you name it. They sure seemed to have the right idea, and believed that they could learn a lot from each other. I was impressed.

Nice dream, but it's NEVER gonna happen - NEVER! Not so long as "man" is in charge! There are already too many greedy, selfish and evil men out there; one dies, (or gets killed), and there's 1,000 more to fill the vacuum!
No God, no peace! Period... end of story!

Your request is about as naive as it would be for world peace. If humanity had the ability to be good on its own, then Jesus would never have had to come!

not until people stop confusing ethics and morals.

people need to realize the value of ethics in a society for functionality, and let each individual have their own morals.
