I'm making a pasta dish with chicken that's cooked with white wine, lemon and spices. Now I'm out of white wine. Am I going to the store or drinking Chianti with it?

any white wine is good, just read the back of the label. you might not want one that is too sweet - if has lots of fruit in it, it's sweeter.

Just read the back of the label. Any Sauvignon Blanc is basic.

Don't go to the store! A chianti is a decent match for chicken pasta, even if it's lightly seasoned. It won't kill the chicken like a cabernet or merlot, and may even surprise you how good a lighter bodied red combines with an acidic dish. Go ahead, live dangerously.

I'd goto the store. Lemon flavored dishes and Chianti probably wouldn't go that well together. I always serve food with the same wine I cooked it with since it tends to go well that way. If you have any champagne available you can also serve it with that. Champagne can be used for all courses of a meal from appetizer to dessert.

It's become the general consensus in today's world, that you should drink the kind of wine you like and not be a slave to the red/white constraints. I'd stick with the Chianti.

I agree with Sabina. I love red wine and drink it with most everything. Chianti tho would not be my favorite with that dish but I'd likely prefer it to schlepping to the store!

the Chianti is fine. Many sommeliers and people in the food industry don't believe in the old rules. you can drink whatever you want with whatever you want but wine/food pairings done right bring out the flavors in each other. I would just enjoy your meal it sounds good

a white would go better with a chicken, lemon pasta dish, but if you really like red, go for it, who wants to run to the store right before a meal.

Aways serve the same or similar wine to what went in the dish.
