My cats fur.........?

My cats fur is so soft on some days but other days its dry and scratchy. Why????

When she cleans herself the fur gets soft and smooth but when she doesn't it stays rough.

When she has recently cleaned herself it will be soft and smooth. On days that she has not yet washed herself you can tell a big difference buy softness or just by touch.
