I've got lots of pictures of the snow. I send them to friends who ask how much snow I got here. And the pictures of the dog playing in the snow are a riot! He's smiling ear-to-ear playing in the snow! Just don't stay out too long in the cold with a camera, and when you take it back inside, keep it away from heat sources so it won't crack.

Cameras are fun no matter what the season!
In severe cold, you have to take some precautions with the batteries and re-warming. Cold batteries fail quickly, so you need a spare set warm in your pocket. Then, when you take the camera back inside, you need to prevent condensation, either by putting the cold camera in a tightly closed plastic bag to rewarm, or by leaving it in a cool place and rewarming gradually.
I love snow and crappy days! Snowscapes are lovely. We don't get too much snow here in NC, but I went to Idaho last winter and took three cameras. Went to the top of the ski mountain and never had a problem. In the snow, I do carry a plastic bag to slip the camera in to keep it dry.
When you shoot snow, the camera meter will try to make the snow 18% grey. Use the exposure compensation to overexpose by a stop from what the camera meter is telling you to keep the snow white. If you're shooting digital, check the histogram or the winkyblinks to make sure you aren't blowing highlights. On film, this is not a problem.
So bundle up and get out there!

Compact cameras like Sony DSC T7 is really good. I own one and I am happy with it. The images are as good as those photos taken by SLRs. But, unfortunately, it's not in market anymore. I am sure you can still buy it online. Check the user review.
I had used that camera in an ice sculpture exhibition. It works fine.

Landscapes with snow make beautiful pics, if you can stand to be outside in the cold!

Winter is the time of year to take night shots so you don't have to wait up all night to get one.
