Okay, I remember when I was in elementary school (not too long ago, about 8 years ago) no one "dated" and had boyfriends and girlfriends. My little brother is in 5th grade and his classmats all have "bfs and gfs". I find that kind of weird. What has the world gotten into?

Popular culture sends this message.

Dating used to be a 16-and-above thing. Then kids a few years younger saw it on TV and got the idea they wanted to get in on the action. Then when 14-year-old dating became the norm, now it all goes down another notch.

If this trend continues, people will be discussing the concept of fetal dating by the year 2057.

ok, i'm a sophomore so it hasn't been too long since i was in elementary school. but i had a boyfriend even in preschool. i had a boyfriend every year up until 9 grade. i mean thats just kind of what society has thrust upon little kids. that dating is cool. thats not how it was for me, but i can totally see that that is how it is now. i mean i dated because i saw older kids, who i looked up to, and they had boyfriends/girlfriends. so i wanted one. its just the day in age. however, if not really "dating." i mean they can't go anywhere or do anything. i mean at school they could, but i remember everyone being so shy that most likely nothing would happen.

Ugh yes, my little sister's in kindergarden so that's cute... but... YES IT'S SICKENING. Teenager lifestyles are considered enviable, but I honestly find middle school relationships silly too. But uhh... they won't cause too much damage, but yeah there's going to be some sickening stuff once they get older. My psych teacher talked about how two little 6th grade girls gave herpes to 47 boys. Kind of rural/suburb area and the parents didn't keep a close eye on them obviously... but yes... bad.

the world is changing , everything is happening earlier, even puberty, i have heard of it starting as early as 5 even 3.
doctors gave these little babies medicine to stop puberty till they are older.

kids see older people dating, they see girls or boys they like, so they call them boyfriends or girlfriends,

surely you remember awkwardly approaching someone and shyly saying "will you go out with me" and if they said no , you would ask the boy or girl next to them.

shame most kids ain't that innocent anymore

Just goes to show how the "new" generation of kids are. Its weird how there are kids in 5th and 6th grade that are already pregnant and having sex.

Maybe they think it's cool and makes them look mature. Kids today are in a rush to grow up. I'm 40 and when I observe young people of today I'm shocked at their behavior the majority of the time.

I am 12. My friends all try to frantically find a BF and one of them already has one. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that they are trying to be in love. But I don't have one, and I don't care. I like being free. So, no I cannot answer your question, because I wonder it myself.

Kids are being pushed, and running towards, growing up a lot faster than we used to (or they should). It's rather sad...our childhood and innocence lasts for such a brief period anyway, why throw half of it away trying to act like a "grown up"?

Maybe it's because it makes them feel older. I always wanted to feel older, now I want to feel younger or just stay the same age for the next 100 years lol.
