First off, try not to worry or be nervous. I know that seems hard not to, but the more you worry and the more nervous you are, the scarier it'll be.

Make sure you get to the airport with plenty of time to check in, go through security, and fine your concourse and gate. Rule of thumb is to allow yourself 2-5 hours before your flight. Call the airport ahead of schedule to see what their wait time is for that specific day.

Make sure you have all your documents with you (picture ID or passport, visa if needed, and ticket). Also make sure that you are not taking any forbidden items with you.

Now you are ready for your flight!

When you taxi, you barely feel the plane move at all. At this point the cabin crew will tell you all you need to know about what to do in case of emergencies and such.

When the plane prepares for liftoff, it starts to go really fast down the runway, and then within 45 seconds you are up in the air. Things may seem a little wobbly at first, but that's just because of moving through the different altitudes. Your ears will pop as you climb through the altitudes also. (chewing gum, drinking something, swallowing, or yawning will alleviate the pressure.)

Once you are in the air, things will feel smooth. You will hear the humm of the engines, but that's normal, nothing to worry about. I actually find it relaxing. If there is turbulence, you might feel the plane wobble a little bit, but remember, planes are designed to withstand this, so take a deep breath and try not to think about it.

When you are approaching landing, your ears will pop as you descend through the altitudes (remember: chewing gum, drinking something, swallowing, or yawning will alleviate the pressure). You will feel the plane slow down and the cabin crew will prepare you for landing. When the plane touches down it kind of feels like a short jolt, and then you hear them cut the engines off and the plane slows down pretty fast.

From there, the plane will taxi to either the gate or the designation where a bus will pick you up. You wait for the plane to decompressurize a few moments before they start letting the passengers out. That was your flight.

To entertain yourself:
- Bring along a few book, magazines, puzzles (such as crosswords or Sodoku if you like those).
- Bring along an iPod, MP3 player, or CD player to listen to music.
- A laptop is good to have as you can play games on it, connect to the internet, and get any work done that you may have.
- Try talking to the people next to you. Sometime you will meet some really interesting people, and forge friendships.

Just thinking about the reasons people get nervous, and do wrong ,etc....
1) BE ON TIME. Get to the airport 2 hours early and have all your metal stuff and toiletries some place other than in your pockets or loose in your luggage. That way you will go through security faster.
2) Watch what other people are doing. Board when they board, put your luggage up like they do, etc. If you don't know, ask a gate agent how it all works.
3) Flying is safe. Yeah, I'm sure you're thinking, well it wasn't for those people who died on 9/11, and you'd be right... but that was a very isolated incident. More people die in car accidents each DAY than die in a year's worth or airline flights -- even that year.
4) Don't drink a lot of water like the other answerer says. You'll have to pee, and it's a pain waiting for the bathroom to be empty.
5) DO bring something to do, like a book or puzzles or whatever.
6) If you have a cold, take a decongestant well before you get on the plane, or your will have a splitting headache when you get up to altitude.
7) Relax and enjoy... you might make new friends, and at the very least the trip will be over quickly.

Have fun!

Make sure you get to the airport well in advance of your departure. Usually 1-3 hrs ahead of time. All depends on where your flying from and too. Bring some gum with you. Keeps your ears from popping during take-off and landing. Remeber not to bring any drinks through the security check. Your allowed to being 1 ziplock baggy filled with up to 1-quart of liquids, but no more than 3oz each. So any makeup, meds, hairspray, etc etc put into the ziplock. Have a valid passport if your flying out of the country, or a valid state ID for domestic flights. Check with your airline for these documents. Remeber to bring Advil or Tylenol. I get bad headaches everytime I fly. I think it's mostly just from getting there early and having to deal with all the people. Other than all that, relax and have a great flight!

You would have to be more specific, but I would assume you are going with your parents somewhere.
Flying is very safe nowadays. It's the getting in to the palne that's a long wait sometimes.
When you get to the airport, you have to go through a security screening first and take off your shoes. Then you simply have to wait to board the plane.
Flying can be an adventure or fun or both. Taking off in a plane is fun, because it travels down the runway faster than a car and takes off. In the plane, you get to watch a movie (on along flight). You get drinks and water, etc. If you are hungry, you can buy food.
All in all flying is one of the safest modes of travel. You are actually safer in a plane thatn driving in a car!
I don't know how far you are traveling, but don't worry about the flight. Have a nice time!

I would agree with everyone who has posted their answers already. If you are flying to another country, I would strongly suggest for you get up once in a while to walk down the aisles, drink a lot of water, bring some travel snacks with you, etc. I know this from my own experience traveling across the world.
