I hear a strange knocking noise, especially when I start it cold. Before I heard this noise, I do admit, I would run it pretty hard. I change my oil every 3,000 miles with Castrol Syn and I keep up to date with all my fluid exchanges, air filter etc... When I have it at Idle, I rev it between 1300 and 1500 rpm and the engine and steering wheel vibrate pretty hard, when I pass 1500 it idles smooth. The knocking noise seems to be coming from the bottom of the engine. I also have a rear main seal leak..can anyone tell me what the sound may actually be? And am I better off selling it? or actually fixing these problems. This may be off the subject, but recently, I had a dream that I had 2 suitcases full of money in my car...this may denote that I will be putting to much money into the car, money in which I do not have. I had this dream 2 days before me hearing this sound. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you for your time.

Well knocks are hard to diag when u are not actually hearing them, but it could be a couple of things if it is a loud defined knock from the lower end it could be spun crank bearings or connecting rod bearings the best way to check is get a stethascope and crawl under the car to see where it is loudest if it is loudest at oil pan the only way to be for sure is pull the oil pan and check for metal/brass shavings. the other thing it could be is spark knock which is not likely because that is more of a ping in the upper end could be caused by carbon build up in the combustion chambers.

well to comment on what somebody else said its not a knock sensor only 96-98 cobras had the knock sensor as well as 99, 01 and 03-04 cobras the only gt's to have knock sensors are the s197's (05-07) anyways it could be any number of things it could be as simple as a bad spark plug/ or clogged injector or as serious and a connecting rod or two try to have the car checked out at a shop you trust so you can decide what your plan will be to fix it or not

is sounds like you are having connecting rod problems best to take it to a ford dealer and have them put it on the machine and test it out so you will be sure, it will cost to test but it is cheaper to know exactly what the trouble is and then you can decide if you want to fix or not
