I am a novice Excel user and just want to total a column based on the number of entries - not add up the numbers in the cells. I just need a count of how many entries I have made.

=COUNT(C4:C12) That is what you need. Of course change the cell numbers to what your cell numbers are.

Select the columns the data is entered on, At the status tool bar, where 'Steady' and 'Num' is, you will see the default 'SUM". Rightclick, change it to "Count". Now you know how many entries you made without adding a single formula.
