Okay, i really hope no one gets offended by the question i am about to ask, but i just want to know. I'm hanging out with someone right now who, to say the least, has a shot every single time we go out to dinner and at least 2 or 3 beers, which sometimes is 3 or 4 times a week! I'm not exaggerating. I'm worried, because when i say something like you know, do you have to drink everytime? he says, i'm not doing it to get F'd up, i'm doing it because i like taste of it.

Do i need to be worried? Does anybody know what the first signs of a potential alcoholic are?

Fortunately, we're jsut in the process of getting to know each other, so its not like we're in love ... or getting married or anything.

Anyway, any comments will be nice.

I think an alcoholic is someone that needs to have a drink and cannot control the amount of alcohol they consume. They can't just have 1 or 2 and stop they keep going until they pass out. I'm sure there's an actual definition maybe in wikipedia.com. I honestly believe that some people really do just like the taste. Maybe he's just been nervous when he goes out with you and drinks to relax which isn't the best thing but better than being an alcoholic.

YES, you have reason to be worried! No matter what his reasoning is behind taking all those shots and drinks, the end result is the same... intoxication to some degree or other. You might go to the AA web site and find the test that they have for finding out if you (or someone you know/love) has a problem with drugs or alcohol. You are to be commended for thinking this through before anything goes any further. Once you get some information under your belt, you will be in a better position to bring this up again in conversation with him. He will more than likely be deep in denial ( it sounds as if he already IS) and will poopoo your concerns or get outright angry. Be prepared for either!
No matter what, don't be in the passenger seat of a car with this man! ANY alcohol consumption, for whatever reason, is an accident waiting to happen!

An alcohollic... where to begin? An alcoholic is someone who drinks frequently or uses drinking to try and relieve them of their pain or solve their problems. If you thin this person is an alcoholic you shouldent get involved with them because they can turn to being abusive or it may cause emotional stress on you. Trust me I live with one.
