Self abuse is usually the result of being in a lot of emotional pain and being upset or pained by someone else. Cutting is about being in charge of your own pain. This girl probably has very negative relationships with her family or the people around her, or might have been traumatised by some kind of abuse. When she cuts herself, she gets a sense of relief, so she will be cutting herself more often when she's upset, stressed or anxious.
Don't be fooled - this girl is not happy, and it's a really bad sign that you think she's happy because it illustrates how good at deception she has become.
She needs to access therapy to talk about the reasons behind why she's cutting herself. You can't get her to stop, she needs to resolve the problems that are upsetting her so that she gets to the point that she can stop by herself.
Since you don't know what the situation is, it's not the best to talk to her parents. You should talk with her directly. Be prepared that she may be defensive, angry, rejecting and she may cry. She might totally deny the whole thing and tell you to piss off. But you have to keep persisting until she sees a therapist about it.
Best of luck to you and your friend.

If you think that she does that, try to make her feel more upbeat about herself so she won't be depressed. Take her to see comedy or romance movies, get her to meet new people and make more friends, and most importantly, tell her that she is a really cool person. But make sure you don't get everyone to act completely different around her or she will get confused and cut herself even more.

thats a tough one, talk to her if you can. or see if she would be willing to get help
Unfortunately cutting is one of those phycological problems if not caught and treated soon enough can become a long time addiction
be a good friend and try to help, no matter what happens, just keep telling yourself you did it because you care, she may look at it differently, but nothing is more important than her life at the moment.

most likely she is hiding a whole bunch of emotions. just try to talk to her and be there for her. let her know that cutting isn't the way to solve ANY problem, big or small. just stand by her, but don't let her do this alone. if things escalte to contemplating suicide you might want to involve her parents or try to get her to get some counseling.

Call a helpline for her. Talk to her, tell her that you would like to be her confidante. She can tell you anything she wants and you will help her or just plain listen. Tell her that there are other ways to let out the pain...one of them is crying. She should just cry her heart out and then sleep. Otherwise, she could get physically sick. I will send her love and pray for her.

Well...maybe I can help. You see I used to cut myself because of trouble at home. Anyway,my
friend Stormy came up to me and she asked why I did what I did. You should ask what's troubling her and if she says that she don't wanna talk about it at school tell her to call you and for her to talk about what's going on and if she wants any help. One other option is to pray for her. God always helps because he's always her for you. Well...I hope that I helped a little.

Read up on it. Google it or check your local library for books on self-mutation, suicide, or depression. Depressed people hide what there feeling from friends/love ones. She problem wouldn't want to talk to people, but you can always try.

You need to get your friend into counselling and fast. Perhaps you should speak to someone also. I don't know how old you are but perhaps a trusted teacher or another good friend. If its getting worse you need to get your friend some help quick..
