Household expenses will vary greatly by location and life style. Living in NYC is going to be much more expensive than living in a rural midwest town, just as salaries can vary greatly from location to location.

A rough guideline for how you might spend your after-tax income:
* Housing and utilities: 25-30%
* Food: 10-15%
* Vehicles: 10-15%
* Insurance: 5%
* Saving and investing: 10-15%
* Entertainment: 5%
* Clothing: 5%
* Medical: 5%
* Childcare and education: 1-8%
* Gifts and charity: up to you

-Healthcare: Depends if you plan to pay out of pocket or get an insurance plan. If you are healthy and don't have any ongoing medical expenses, probably not too much. However, definitely keep a savings account with a few thousand dollars in it to be used for medical emergencies

-Gas(to heat your house): I have never used gas heat, so I don't know. It will depend on how much space you need to heat.

-Electric: I spend about $70 per month on electric, but my heat is also electric. If you don't have electric heat, it will be less, but plan to pay quite a bit for gas heat. I also use a lot of electronics which run pretty much 24/7.

-Water: About $40

-Trash: I pay a community fee of $20 per year

-Cable: $80 for a bundled expanded cable tv and internet package

-Phone: If you get a landline and you don't not bundle it with internet or cable tv, then about $50, including features like caller ID and a flat long-distance rate

-Car Insurance: Depends on the state you live in, your driving history, what kind of car you drive, how often you want to pay your premiums, and what kind of insurance you want to have. Assuming you would pay per month for liability coverage only and are an 18 year old unmarried female, I would estimate anywhere between $80 and $200, depending on your driving history, type of vehicle, and location.

-Gasoline: Depends on how much you drive and what kind of mileage your car gets. Figure out your expected monthly mileage, figure out an average gas price for your area, and do the math.

-Maintenance(for your car): Again, it depends. How good of condition is your car in? At least plan on an oil change every three months. Costs about $25 unless you do it yourself.

-Groceries: For just yourself, probably not more than $100.

Seriously, though, you don't give nearly enough information for someone to make estimates for you. I think you'd be better off asking people in your area who know something about your spending habits.

When I got my first place, it was a small 1 bedroom apartment in Minnesota. My monthly expenses (rent included) were roughly $850 per month and I did not have to pay for water, trash, heat, cable, or healthcare. I paid car insurance every 6 months, walked or rode the bus when I could, and did car maintenance myself. I did not spend money on luxuries (movies, eating out, new clothes, cell phone, etc). So you can imagine the things I did pay for were pretty costly.

If you are planning to move out on your own, I suggest you do your homework on the costs of things in your area and take a good look at your spending habits. Can you make enough money to live on your own and would you be able to save enough extra money to cover your for at least six months in case you lost your job?

I have no clue! Only you can answer that. That is called a budget.

Where do you live? Is it winter in Maine or summer in California? What size home? What is the cost of the utilities? Electric appliances? How many long distance calls do you make? How much do you drive? How much do you eat and what types of food? Do you eat out a lot? Type of car?

Sorry, you won't get any reliable answers with the information you've given. It all depends on the area of the country you live in, how much you drive and eat, and what level of service you choose on some of the utilities. I'm not trying to be mean spirited, but any estimates you get are just pure guesses and may not be anywhere close to your actual expenses without more info.

No possible way to say what YOU might spend on any of those. It's all down to your lifestyle and income and where you live.
