This is usually caused by having the cables between an after market radio and external amplifier being to close to the wiring some where in the vehicle. If you have an External Amp re wrought the cables as far as possible from any wiring harness and be sure to use good quality shielded cables as short as possible. If you have a factory radio or an after market radio with out an external amp then the problem is most likely internal in the radio or a problem with the coaxial cable from the antenna. occasionally I have seen a problem with the antenna base not having a good ground cause some problems. The last possible cause I can think of is a problem with the cars ignition system like spark plug wires.

Engine whine thru your radio can be a result of a bad ground or an alternator starting to go bad. I would suggest that you have the alternator checked out, inspect the alternator wires, especially the ground wire, and the battery cables. Clean them up, and reinstall. If you still have the whine, there are resistor kits that can be purchased to reduce the whine coming thru. Some are for the radio itself, and rarer are the ones for the alternator. If the whine has spiking type elements in it, there is a chance that the spark plug wires have some damage to them, so have those inspected as well.
Good luck.

In most cases, I've found this to be a problem with the ground wires. Usually the noise you are hearing is coming from the alternator. Make sure the radio is grounded well and no loose wires.

Check your high voltage ignition (spark plug wires, spark plugs, coil assembly). These are usually the cause of FM interference. Check to see that the spark plugs are of the ''resistor type'' also. Has anyone worked on your car recently, and perhaps install non resistor plugs?

Plugs and wires? Yeah right. You've got your radio grounded wrong. Take the ground directly from the radio and use a thick wire to bolt it to the chassis frame. That's what I did when my radio acted like yours. Thats the fix! :-D

the noise could be coming from your ground wire,so you need to put it in a new location n screw it to bare metal not to painted metal .If you do re-locate the ground and still have the noise what you can do is buy a noise filter from a local car audio shop or wal-mart which would be cheaper,Install the filter and that would help kill the noise

two things will fix your problem first is to buy a sound reducer go to any car audio place and you can get one, another thing to do is run a ground wire from your battery to your amp, and do not use the frame of the car as your ground

go to radio shack and get a resistor that goes on the positive wire of your radio and it will take the noise out. You didn't say how old the car is but more than likely you need new spark plug wires.
