if you live on a split level house - place the food on a different floor than the one he tends to stay on the most....stairs are a great form of excersise. taking him outside - on a leash is always a nice way to get hom to move around a little bit more. try catnip too - it hyoes them up and they tend to run around a lot after they have it. definitley change the food - slowly introduce a low caloric cat food, you can check with your vet about what kind to try. i have had overweight cats - you may also want to check with your vet because there are some cats they are just meant to be overweight. hope it works out fo you and the chubby one!

I have a stick with a string and feather at the end of it and I exercise my cat for 10-15 mins. several times a day. She also has balls with bells to kick around and she likes to play with empty toilet paper rolls. She was quite overweight when we got her and now she has lost weight. We also feed her a "lite" diet dry food.

Cut back her calories a bit and play at every opportunity. I picked up a Cat Dancer for jumping and frolicking, this has won hands down in our house. It is just bits of cardboard wrapped on the end of a wire, but my cats go crazy for its fluttering moth effect.

Here are some links to obesity and what you can do about it. Exercise is good, but a change in diet may be in order.
