1) Set aside a specific time to get things done every day and remove all distractions
2) If you can't motivate yourself then get someone else to nag you...when you're feeling horrible, just think about how you felt "wasting" a semester. Is the guilt and constant anxiety worth it? Probably not
3) Reward yourself for time well spent. For example, "if" you work for an hour with little distraction, then allow yourself to watch 1/2 hour of a show that you like, or eat something you love. Things like that. They you feel like you've earned your free time and it makes it even more enjoyable
4) If you find yourself falling asleep doing one thing, then switch it up. I don't know exactly what your thesis involves, but just break it down into different types of work. For example, written, reading a book, reading online articles, searching through journals, watching videos, taking notes, underlining in your books, online research, etc. It'll make it more bearable
5) change locations in your home. One day study on one couch, the other find a corner, or sit on your bed, at your computer, or even sit outside somewhere nice - a field perhaps. You can always type it up later, and the environmental change will wake you up.
6) get enough sleep
7) drink lots of water. Having a drink beside me (for whatever reason) really helps to perk me up.
8) take vitamins
9) take breaks every 45 mins to an hour, even just to get up and walk around and stretch for a bit
10) get at least 1/2 hour of exercise a day if you can. It'll get your circulation flowing, and your concentration will DRAMATICALLY improve. Honestly. Even if that exercise is just a brisk walk around the block.
I wish you the best!

Hello cold_cold. First you have got to relax....If you keep on focusing on focusing you will never focus. Try to find if it just nervousness and anxiety the ones that are not letting you focus or if it is a more serious problem like ADD (in this case you will get medicated). To relax I would suggest doing Yoga or Exercise and then study. Argentox2@yahoo.com

It might be stress or could you possibley have adult ADD. What were your study habits as a young child? If this has been a problem for you since you were young and if you seem to be almost obsessed with one thing or another but can't focus on what you need to, I would check with the doc to see if you are having symptoms of Add. GOOD LUCK
