I did a lot of research into numerous spiritual paths and religions, examined myself, and decided what I really believed. So it's not a matter of accepting belief, but rather REALLY believing. You either believe something or you don't. I suggest looking into a variety of religions and attending various churches and temples to see if anything really resonates or works for you. There's nothing that says you have to choose a religion right now or a week from now, or even a year from now. Some people seek all their lives. Others come up with their own unique belief systems over time. It's okay to explore.

I'm assuming you're a young adult, because I also struggled with religion at that age. I was raised a Christian, but came to realize the contradictions and hypocrisy in it by the time I was ten. I rejected it, and spent a few years denying "God" and rejecting organized religion in any form. Then I got a little older and realized I didn't know anything about any of the thousands of other beliefs in the world. So, I researched them. Read one book on every religion you can find, then continues with the ones that meet your needs.
The key is, find the one that fits your personal values. For example, I believe that being a good and moral person has everything to do with how you treat others, and nothing to do with sex, a natural act.
An interest in my ancestors' heritage finally lead me to a religion I can embrace and enjoy, much older and more spiritual than the Christian "rules" written in the middle ages by men seeking power and wealth. And you can find yours, too.

You don't know what to believe? Then focus on what you know.
I was raised Catholic and I have no complaints about it; but I can't remember a time when I actually believed in god, and I always knew that I only went to church because it was something my family did. As an adult, I rarely thought about religion until my mid-thirties, when I finally got around to reading the bible, and that was the final push I needed to realize that I was an atheist and had been for years.

Dear UFO,
Christianity is not the only way to go to get to Heaven. You can be Jewish, and if you lead a positive life and show your good ways, you will be greeted into the Pearly Gates. I know some Wiccans who call it the Summerlands. It's the same thing.
Like trying on an outfit for a celebration, not everyone is going to suit well with the one outfit you may have chosen for yourself.
Religion is kind of like that; wear what suits you best.
I hope you find the road that leads you to your destination!

i was Christian
but i was experiencing some paranormal things and this was contradictory to Christianity
so i couldnt remain in the religion and ignore my own personal experiences
for years though i remained without religion ... even gave up all together
but through my work with spirit , i believe in a God and have since found my beliefs to be that of spiritualism
so this was a natural choice for me

I was raised in the LDS church, went to church every week, sometimes being what I thought was "forced"...I heard a talk once in church it went something like "When I was young, I had a drug problem. I was drug to primary, drug to Sunday School, drug to sacrament meeting, drug to weekly activities...I am so thankful for that "drug" problem."
I am grateful to my parents for raising me in the church...eventhough sometimes I didn't want to go and they would guilt me into it!
I had to gain my own testimony of the gospel, I had to know for myself and I firmly believe each person or member needs their own testimony, otherwise, church will seem awful and they will feel "forced" to be there and eventually they will fall away from the church because they never knew why they were there in the first place. That was one long sentence.
Anywho, for me it was through prayer, study, church attendance and many many spiritual experiences that I gained my testimony which is constantly growing. I love the gospel with all my heart, I know it is true, I know I am a child of God, that He knows me and loves me, that Christ is my Savior and Redeemer, that my marriage and family can be eternal if I live worthily of the covenants I have made with my Heavenly Father.

I spent about 15 years studying theology. It started out as I wanted to know God. But I wasn't getting anywhere with Christianity....something just didn't seem right with it, no matter which sect I looked into.
After many years of study and soul searching, I finally came to my own conclusions. I am a church of one person, and I'm completely happy....
And I think there are a few people here who are simply cutting and pasting on every single question....QUIT PROSELYTIZING AND LET THE GIRL THINK!

My parents had me baptized as a Roman Catholic. So that's why I became one. I STAYED a Roman Catholic because after all my studies and research, there is no Church on this earth that is closer to the teachings of Christ. Probably because it was founded by Christ through the commissioning of the Apostles.
Matthew 16:13 * When Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi* he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?"
16:14 They replied, "Some say John the Baptist, * others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
16:15 He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"
16:16 * Simon Peter said in reply, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God."
16:17 Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood * has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father.
16:18 And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, * and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.
16:19 I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. * Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
Matthew 28:16 * The eleven* disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them.
28:17 * When they saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted.
28:18 * Then Jesus approached and said to them, "All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
28:19 Go, therefore, * and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit,
28:20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. * And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age."

I don't think religion is the answer - religion is man attempting to reach God. Relationship is what God desires and we have the choice to believe or not. All these religions and beliefs that are man made will fade away.....God and His word - the Bible is all that is truth.

My parents taught me about God and I went to church and always knew the truth about God. I am blessed that I got to grow up in the church. Some kids dont get to do that and it makes it harder to teach them the truth about God when they grow up.
I came to accept my beliefs by listening to sermons, praying in my bible school group and praying on my own at home, and just seeing how much better life is when I live by the Christian guidelines.
