I can tell you the Hindu half and only assume about the Muslims doing this.

For Hindus, conservative ones, restraining ones passions allows them to see clearly. How can one function if they are consumed by passion outside of the bedroom? Also, they stress that passion should be reserved for the holy act of procreation and to show physical affection/passion in any other context lessens the spirituality of procreation.

Kind of werid coming from those who wrote the kama sutra eh?

I think it's similar for Muslims as well but most likely focuses on how displays of affection lessen the spirituality of procreation itself. It all also ties into how a man should act and how one shouldn't etc etc.

Edit: Do I think it's right?

No I do not. Human sexuality is more complex than man+woman=baby. Affection and physical touch are also very affective ways of helping ones mental health and strengthing friendship, love and bonds with people. This is so in the animal world and is true for humans.

Alienating people only harms them and not allowing affection only devides the sexes further in cultures where they are already extremely devided. This division is arbitray in the long wrong one and does more harm than good since it often leads to one sex dominating/misunderstanding the other. Go to any Hindu wedding and watch the young people there dancing. It isn't like an American highschool dance where you will see boys dancing with girls. Boys dance with boys because affection between the sexs is so discoraged. While this may strengthen the bonds between men and vice versa, it only leads to sexual suppression and a lack of cominication in the bedroom which ultimately manifests itself in negative emotions.

This does exclude those Hindus who are happy in their marriages but they are lucky to have developed a friendship with a wife/husband they didn't choose to marry. I would be safe to say that they are in the minority and a lack of divorce is more do to nessisity than an overabunce of love.

In the Muslim religion you can't hold hands or kiss a guy before marriage? how would you know you want to marry them? You don't want to marry someone and then find out they are bad kissers, or bad at other things and then be unhappy forever. I'd say it shouldn't be wrong, if it is well then I'm so glad that I'm not Muslim because i've been holding hands and kissing guys since I was 14 or 15.

you may find this shocking but crime occurs in all countries. America is actually considered very violent and hateful by the rest of the civilized world. We have the highest murder rate and crimes against children as well as being the last civilized nation to have the death penalty which is considered barbaric by most standards. Imagine a couple trying to walk through central park after dark in the 80's, it's practically suicide.

I do not think that these actions are condoned by any authorities in any muslim or hindu nation.

Why do well meaning people in the United States start fights with women who are breast feeding in public?

Its because some people are just plain prudish, and much of that is tied into their religious beliefs.

And no, it isn't right.

It's a good question, if it's true, but where are your sources and evidence to prove it? Otherwise people will just think you're being racist.
