Do you think that the public understanding of science and a strong scientific industry is beneficial to a community and /or country?

That's a no brainer....of course.

Science is the practice of accurately and precisely understanding the processes and phenomena that surround our existance with out bias.

That's not to say, however, that other aspects of life like, kindness, art, and love aren't equally important.

Absolutely. A country with an emphasis on science and education is a country that will be asking questions and making new discoveries.

The opposite situation leads to stagnation and a backwards society...like the Dark Ages in Europe.
