put him on a leash and say "SIT" and push his butt to the ground (not hard) and then if he stays praise him and give him a treat. Keep doing this maybe twice a day for no longer than 15 mins. (puppys lose interest after about 15 mins.)
Is he still a puppy? If he is you can always go to PetsMart and take him to the puppy classes, those help alot. Or try to call a professional trainer.
or, cheaper, buy a puppy training book!
they have alot in like Barnes & Nobles.
Good Luck!

Find a toy he likes and hold it about two feet over his head and command sit. Most dogs will automatically sit but if he's stubborn you may have to coax him into the sit. Once his rear touches the ground give him the toy and get excited telling him what a good dog he is. Do this repeatedly and he will associate the act with getting a reward.

First, you need to find out a treat that your dog ABSOLUTELY LOVES! I mean, tail wagging, jumping up and down loves! Wave the treat in the air just enough so that he can't get ot it. All the while, keep on saying "SIT" in a firm face. At first, he may jump up and try to get it. KEEP IT OUT OF HIS REACH! Just keep saying sit. After a while, he'll sit. When he sits, give him the treat. Keep on practicing this way, about 15-30 minutes a day. When it clicks in his mind that he'll get rewarded for sitting, he'll do it more often. You can then reinforce it by commanding him to sit (same firm voice to give the message that you're the pack leader) without showing him the treat. But reward him after obeying your command and pretty soon, he'll be sit-trained! (i kinda made up that last word) Hope it works out for you. It worked for my dog!

Well this is how I taught my dog to sit. First I pushed my dogs butt down so she would sit and I would give he/her a treat. And heres the second way. Or you wait till your dog sits and give he/her a treat. You pick one and if you keep doing it your dog will know. It took me 10min to teach my dog.

whenever it gets around his normal eating time, don't let him eat anything. hold his snout up and push his rear end down. and say sit while you do so and hold it for about 15 secs. then, keep on doing it and whenever he does it the first time you say sit w/o helping him, give him a treat. hope it works out!!
