Speaking as a nationally known credit score and lending expert (book, radio shows, newspaper columns, etc.):

First, let me say I am not in love with any national creditor or bank or any credit bureau. They run a crooked game and I disrespect them for it. Having said that....

Technically and according to federal law, if you dispute a TRUE credit item you are breaking the law. Fair Credit Reporting Act.

If you dispute items in order to get a loan or a better rate, that is loan fraud, a felony.

Will that change your mind? I doubt it.

you can always dispute an account on your credit report, I'm in the process of cleaning mine up also, so I know just how you feel. You can either go online to the credit bureau site & file an online dispute or contact them by mail, either way by law they have 30 days to correct the account or contact you to tell you that the credit grantor states it is still due or payable. The best way is to send copies of your paid in full receipts/letter to the bureau via certified mail. This will help speed the process up. Good Luck!

You can contact the credit reporting agency and disput the item, but it is better to contact the creditor and have them update your files.

I paid off $16,000.00 in child support, it showed 120 days late, 90 days late, 30 days late and current. It showed as unsatifactory also, I got it removed completely (deleted they call it) off my credit report because it WAS paid off I think!

Well, you can listen to these people who have no experience with such matters, or you can go to www.creditboards.com/forums where they know the ins and outs of these types of things.
