THEY WILL BE SITUATIONAL QUESTIONS TO DETERMINE YOUR ABILITY TO THINK ON YOUR FEET. EXAMPLE - WHILE AT A CRIME SCENE YOU OBSERVE YOUR SERGEANT TAKING A PACK OF CIGARETTES FROM THE COUNTER AT THE CRIME SCENE HE DOES NOT PAY FOR THEM AND PROCEEDS TO LEAVE THE STORE. WHAT WOULD YOU DO? - HOW WOULD YOU HANDLE THIS SITUATION? BE MINDFUL THIS QUESTION HAS 2 THOUGHTS YOU CAN BE A RAT AND REPORT HIM OR YOU CAN BE DIPLOMATIC, NO MATTER HOW YOU WOULD ANSWER THESE TYPES OF QUESTIONS THEY WILL MAKE YOU SEEM WRONG - SO DON'T GET FLUSTERED JUST BE CALM AND STAND BY YOUR ANSWER.

There are several things we look at during the oral board. One is whether or not the applicant projects a command presence. That is are your clothes clean, pressed, is your tie on appropriately, are you shoes shined, your general appearance.
Do you make eye contact when you are responding to questions. How do your answers reflect your life experience. I would suggest you great the board when you enter with a good morning, good afternoon, sit up straight, use sir and ma'am.
When I went through the oral board all the questions where geared towards life experience and only had a few law enforcement directed questions. Good Luck!!

Its a good thing it is oral and not written...It's spelled "Board"....Just be yourself and make sure your answers don't make you some sort of one man army. Police work is a team effort. If a situation calls for a team you should retreat to a safe location and call for backup. They may look to see if you think you are superman....good luck, and bone up on your spelling. Written reports are part of the job as well.

Listen to the question. If you don't understand the scenario or the question, ask the board member to repeat or rephrase.
Don't change your answer because they made you reconsider. Be confident, unless you realize that your answer is not suffice or resolving of the scenario. If they tell you, you report to a dispatch call about a suspicious man in red. The moment you arrive a man in red by the road, but another one takes off running. If you say you would go after the running man and realize you just failed to investigate the call for what it was, say you would like to change your answer and why. Don't just change it because they made you feel stupid. Doing this demonstrates a lack of confidence and an inability to make sound decisions, two major requirements in law enforcement.
Keep a pen or a small pocket book in your pocket in case you need to write information about a scenario.
Don't use your hands to talk too much. Communicate with your words, not gestures. Don't wander your eyes up on the ceiling if you are trying to make a decision about your answer. Look at the board members in the eyes. This shows professionalism and bearing. this also exudes self confidence.
Example of board interview:
1st board member: Good afternoon, Mr Golden. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Interviewee: First of all, Good afternoon to you and the rest of the members on the board. I would like to thank you for the opportunity to be here today. My name is Mr Golden. I am from dallas,tx. I am a husband and father of 2. I first became interested in becoming a law enforcement officer when.... After becoming familiar with your dept's benefits plan and high retention rate I decided this was a dept i wanted to work for. I also know that I could contribute to the dept as i have a strong ability to work in a team environment. That is also accompanied with a strong sense of dedication and desire to give back to the community. My goals are to successfully complete the academy and continue to provide for my family, My long term goals are to advance in my career and possibly branch off to other agencies where I could expand my professional skills and experience.
They will shoot you with different scenarios. For example, What would you do if the railroad police just observed 4 vagrants?
You would say I would arrive and touch base with the railroad police.
They would say," you wouldn't let dispatch know you arrived? Then you would say, "Yes. I forgot about that."
"Okay...if you want to be an officer, let us know."
You'll smile feeling awkward over this statement.
"So you will inform dispatch. Then what?"
"I would proceed to search for the vagrants?
"You wouldn't request back up, Mr Golden? You have 4 vagrants seen by the railroad police. You don't want back up?Or are you superman?"
ETC, ETC,ETC. If you want to know more, hit me up. But that's basically what you're going to get. Not all members will drill you this way and sometimes one question by one will turn into a "meat grinder" All the members will question you about the same scenario, which adds pressure. The board should not last no more than maybe 15-30 minutes. If it lasts longer than that, it can only mean one thing-your answers are either on point or close to it.They like you. If you're failing miserably, there not going to waste your time, theirs or that of the other applicants who are waiting to go after you. If you want to talk, hit me up. Don't ask me any questions about me personally. Only the board or I'll "disconnect"

Just remember to sit up and take deep breath. Think about the answer you are about to give. Make sure that you are clear and consise. If you don't understand the question ask that it be rephrased.
As for any stories...sorry I don't have any.
