Anyone have any ideas on what to do for an asian-flair wedding reception?

Such as party favors? We've thought of chinese food takeout boxes with chopsticks at every seat, but have NO idea what to put in them! Any suggestions?

Table decorations? So far we've thought of small-sized origami. Anything else?

Food to serve? I'd like to have finger foods/appetizers versus a full meal. Mini-eggrolls, but I'm not sure what else I can have! Help?

hang chinese sun umbrellas (buy them in china town or online very cheap) over each table upside down and put in them to create a nice warm glow, add some hanging flowers like branches of orchids mixed with hanging armynthias so it drapes over the edge of the umbrella.

Create a "zen garden" at each table with sand, a little rack and stones for an interactive centerpice.

Place japanese paper lanterns through out the venue.

serve pot stickers, won tons and sushi platters

fill the take out boxes with fortune cookies

This was my original idea for my wedding too! Here are some ideas I came up with:

1. personalized fortune cookies for favors
2. the colors red & gold must prevail (good luck)
3. Chinese paper lanterns
4. chop sticks as part of table setting
5. bridesmaids wear typical asian dresses
6. bamboo sticks
7. lots of peonys (national flower of China)
8. serve dumplings & mini egg rolls

Also, it is Asian belief that 2 people are tied together by an invisible string at birth and that strig shrinks with time until their wedding, when it disappears. You can make a creative card with a piece of string or something as keepsake.

check out www.marthastewart.com for great ideas. Type in Chinese New Year in search bar.

Good luck!

On ebay I found a few things
http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&satitle=asian+fusion+wedding

You could have red candles with gold characters on them for table decorations, small lanterns, fans, chopsticks, there are a lot of double happiness themed wedding products. Some of those things could also be used as favors. This site also has personalized fortune cookies, that would be really cool! http://www.weddingthings.com/oriental_wedding_favors.htm

I think mini-eggrolls are a good start, also you could have crab rangoon, different soups (i.e. hot and sour, wonton, egg drop), mini sushi's, spring rolls, wontons. Three to four mini appitizers and a small soup would totally be enough. It could also probably be done fairly inexpensively.

It really depends on which Asian country. If you want to decorate the table with origami, then you'd want to go with the Japanese theme.
For flowers, you can have cherry blossom or simple Japanese flower arragement.
For favors, you can have Japanese style chopsticks or personalized tea. Tea is very popular in Asian culture. Email me if you need more info.
For food, how about bite-size sushi? It's great finger food and yummy too.

My suggestion is to head to your nearest Chinatown! Spend the day there and bring your camera. Take tons of pictures and absorb the atmosphere. Then when you get home you can refer to your pictures and memories to pick out your favorite aspects of Chinatown.
Also, research online the Asian wedding traditions, incorporate some of them into your day. I love the idea of fortune cookies, and you can have them personalized for your event.

Are you going for pure Chinese Tradition or is Japanese an option. I researched alot on the Japanese traditions before my wedding to someone whose herritage comes from Japan.
For example, in Japanese Weddings they have a Saki toast. It is also traditional to have the oragami cranes throughout the event, there is a set number of them (ine thousand) and they signify different things, such as a granted wish for a happy marraige. Check out the websites and see what you can find!

Good luck and congrats!

My friend went to the Dollar Tree and ordered little bamboo plants. They cost $1.00 each, and these were her favors. They were super cute, and after two years, mine is still alive and well!

For a centerpiece on each table, have a Chinese lantern. Or, a large origami, perhaps a different one for each table.

www.weddingstylefavors.com has a great selection of Asian inspired table decor and centerpieces. They also have a cool DIY section. They show you how to make really cute paper cones that you can fill with candy. I think it would be really cute to try this idea using paper with an Asian motif.

Hope that helps.
