I tried o download something from Microsoft, but it wouldn't let me because it said my operating system isn't the real windows xp.

do you have the xp disc you downloaded?

If so, under language options in the control panel you can install any language you like. It will only ask for your xp cd to load the files. Once you have them on your system, use the language bar and then open word and select 日本語 and then set the input method to ひらがな. All edititions I've used of Word will pick it up just fine. You can set the language bar to use romangi and type it all out in english as you go or if your familair with the japanese keyboard layout you can input direct hiragana/katakana

If you don't have the xp disc.....well you really should download that. It's pretty usefull if you ever need a reformat

I'm not sure about kanji but under SimHei font in symbols you can find hiragana and katakana.

I have these fonts on my MS Word. I got them free from a site called ThemeWorld. Just put the names of the font in the search field and it'll dig them up.
