Well, the obvious is things like leather goods, designer clothes, etc. But watch out for the fakes, because the Italian police are really cracking down, not just on the sellers, but also on the buyers. You can be fined quite a lot of money for buying fake designer gear now.

Then there's the stuff specific to one place, like Murano glass in Venice, etc.

But what would *I* buy? Mostly things that I discovered when I lived there and can't find in the UK...

Foodwise - big lemons, better olives, Pocket Coffee sweets (!), 'Ciobar' hot chocolate powder, a huge lump of vacuum-packed Parmesan, and in Bologna, Majani chocolates. And Easter eggs at Easter - the Italian ones are SO much better...

Make up - A brand called 'Pupa' that's hard to get hold of here - really cute packaging and good quality stuff. Also a much cheaper brand called 'Deborah' that's still much better than cheap stuff here.

Stationery - just so much better. Especially the diaries. A lot of them are aimed at schoolchildren, I think, but I'm a huge fan of 'Smemoranda' diaries. Good presents, possibly?

And then I'd just spend some time wandering round a big department store or two (or three...), depending where you are. La Rinascente is always good, Coin isn't bad either.

If you like cameos you might want to look at some of their carved cameo jewelry or other cameo carvings. It is carved in Torre Del Greco just outside of Naples so you should be able to get it for a good price.. I was there in the fifties and toured their facility but that was a long time ago and I don't remember a whole lot about it other than the carvings are beautiful. Have a nice trip..

Venetian Glass from the Venice Area. You can buy leather anywhere. Buy your gold jewelry in Greece.

I would buy gold! Italians are famous for their jewelry. It is always at least 18k and higher. They only make the 14k stuff for export. Their craftsmanship is of the highest quality. If you are going to Firenze (Florence) invest in leather goods. . shoes, ladies handbags, wallets........Have a great time!

Designer clothes, bags, leather shoes, Italian gold jewelries, wine, pasta, extra virgin olive oil, and Capo di monte ornaments.
Maybe I'll go for Milan, Rome, Naples, & Florence.
