I was thinking of in the south pacific where the US dollar will buy much more than in the States.

I retired on Panay island (3rd largest) in the Philippines. It's loacated in the Visayas region 6 (center) . We live in Iloilo city in the southern part of the island. Fishing, golfing, bowling nice resturants and resorts. 5 major shopping malls. 4 good private hospitals nearby one with a cardiac center. DSL and CATV are availible.
Illongo's are famous throughout the Philippines for their friendliness and hospitality. I have lived here 5 years and can state for a fact that reputation is well deserved. Iloilo city is a peaceful and safe place to live. We are outside the typhoon alley so a typhoon is a very rare event. There are expats from around the world living here and the supermarkets carry a wide variety of imported foods. The native food is good , but sometimes I want meat and potatoes.
The cost of living here is low and maids and drivers are very affordable evan for the average pensioner. Feel free to e mail me if you'd like to know more.

I, too, am looking into retirement soon. I'm looking into The Philippines, possibly ****** Oriental, maybe south of Bacolod City or even as far down as Hinoba-an. Beautiful, friendly people. A little away from the typhoons. Very inexpensive cost of living. At least, consider that. If you find a better place, let me know.

At this point, I am looking on my retirement as well. Surely, when that time comes, it will be the Philippines because where else can be most relaxing than to stay under the sun with nice people and beautiful place around you.

Philippines...most of the population can speak english and $1 USD buys you 48.44 pesos. Tropical fruit, warm weather, and beautiful beaches await...
