ok i have 302 i am rebuilding to put in a 1978 cj 5. I purchased the intake from a 1991 grand marquis. The block i belive is an 87 and has the e7 te heads . I have been doing research and i wanted to know what is needed to make this engine an "h.o" or is it even worth it to do it. The intake comes with the engine harness but i also wanted to know what harness would be good to get for the computrer. I know i need the computer and harness but what vehicle would be a good donor?

Not knowing whether the long block was from an H.O. or not, I assume not. You will need to put an H.O. cam and pistons in, or at least flat tops. The bottom end still will not be an "H.O." as they had a steel crank and pistons. You can build the bottom end with aftermarket parts from many different manufacturers. You will need an intake and harness from an 89-93 Mustang. 87-88 models were speed density from the factory, and don't work as well with any modifications. They are also harder to find parts for. The 89-93 cars were mass air, and will work better with any modifications. If money is an issue, then I would say a very mild cam (still better than stock) and use the manifold and computer/harness from the 89-93 Mustang.

Hi. Lots of questions here. If you convert to the EEC-IV computer you need an MAF sensor (Mass Air Flow), and some after market power adders. My 302 has an E303 cam, GT-40 Intakes, MAC shorty headers, and 3.55:1 gears. I personally like this setup but you may not. Any 1987 to 1993 Mustang would be a good donor car.

the h.o. engine has a higher nickel content in the block, the heads are almost the same, it came with shorty headers, a roller cam, and TRW forged pistons. if you have a rollercam block. dont bore it out unless you have to. you will throw away forged pistons for 4 cubic inches. see if you can get away with honing the block. you can add a roller cam to it, you need the lifters, cam, pushrods, dog bones, and spider. you have to drill and tap 2 holes in your lifter valley
