When they get older , many older people become childish thinking. Thinking about very trivial things and act like little children about things. What is the cause of this? I know it is a form of seniality , but could sombody explain what is happening in their body or brain?

Also does this happen to people , say in their 30's as well. Or maybe some people just never really "grow up"? Why do some people who should be married and having adult life, still behave as little children? Something similar to above?

it's because very often the elderly are scorned ignored and disregarded and they are treated like little children and spoken to like little kids. Sometimes (apart from those who have dementia) making a fuss like a child is the only way to get the attention or noticed and listened to. Sometimes it's out of sheer frustration at not being treated like a compos mentis adult. People seem to equate age and frailty with childishness or too old to know. Western society especially sweeps them under the carpet. If i ever reach their age I'll make myself a real nuisance till i'm heard properly.

Because the elderly are losing their brain Higher Executive Functions and children haven't yet developed them. These are the higher order processes that enable us to plan, sequence, initiate, and sustain our behavior towards some goal. Some adults are also lacking in the HEF department.

This was gleaned from an occupational therapist who was assessing our very elderly relative as to suitability for returning home to self care.
