And really believe that there's an omnipotent, omniscient, supernatural person who knows with total certainty that their destiny is eternal bliss or eternal torment (or annihilation, for those of that interpretive persuasion)?

Naw. Fate does happen, but I think most people create through their actions how things will go down for them in the future. If an all-powerful Creator already has everything written down, what's the point of trying to improve oneself? Ya know, the Puritan's believed this. God knew from the moment of conception whether that Puritan was Heaven or Hell bound and they believed there was nothing any of them could do to change this fate. The best they could hope for was a slightly less horrid Eternal Torment through life-long petition to Yahweh the Torturer.

When a human looks at a child (or better yet, a baby), there are specific biological events that occur. Ever notice how we all make goofy squealy noises at babies, for instance (awww, how cuuuuuuute?) Some of these are programmed into being "human" (like making squealing noises to enforce a baby's learning speech). No, I'm not saying that this is "Intelligent Design" -- this is simply genetically programmed as a result of millions of years of evolution.
As a result, when we look at a child, (and specifically the baby eyes which are disproportionately large compared to the adult eyes), we are preprogrammed to be attracted to this face. It would be difficult for us to reason that this child is "evil" (even if it were, actually, evil.) Hitler, as a baby, eventually did turn into Hitler, but probably was an adorable little baby who cooed and gurgled.

If everything is a program then there are those for special effects and the dramas and of course don't forget the extras and background performers or fillers. Remember Children of the Corn? Something for everyone it seems or this world would be soooo boring.

Jesus said:
Mark 10:14 Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of God.15 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein. 16 And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.

I believe that we make our OWN destinies, and that we also can help form the beginnings of our own children's destinies. As far as some omnipotent being, well, I find it hard to believe that ANY deity can be perfect. After all, is it not said that "god is a jealous god"? Jealousy is an imperfection. Even the Bible does not deny that there are other gods, it simply says that to worship other Gods is sinful. Me? I worship Macoroni and Cheese....eat it all the time. ;)

Yes...not just some omnipotent, omniscient, supernatural person who knows...but, God.
God made all, God knows all and God gives us all the chance to believe in His Son and our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Can you look into the eyes of the beautiful creation that God gave you in your precious child and not believe in His love?!

When I look into a child's eyes I affirm that there is such thing as a God and a Spirit, and there are eternal things in this universe, though they may beyond our physical dimension.

When I look into a Child's eyes, I am thankful that they are innocent before God. That they are pure. That they have a home with God.

I have three children, ages 3,4, and 8. They are clever, spirited, mischievous, whole, healthy, and beautiful. And yes, when I look in their eyes, I believe in God with all my heart. Without His blessing, I would not have them.

Ummm..The God I know did not created my destiny, He walks with me as I decide for myself....

To say that God destined what is to happen to us is like saying he's selfish and nullifies our free will...

I can look into a child's eyes and see how beautiful God's design for that child's life is, and pray that the child will see it too.
