A couple to avoid... Jacob is very common (no. 1 on most popular name list for several years) as is Josh/Joshua. Unless she wants her child to have the same name as 2 or 3 others in his class at school! (used to be a teacher and always seemed to have loads of them). I agree with the previous answerer though that she should be able to pick whatever name she wants - at the end of the day, if there are no jw names she likes, pick a name she does like and forget the tradition! I'm also expecting and have chosen to ignore all random family naming traditions (of which we seem to have several). You can't please everyone all the time.

I cannot believe this sort of pressure is being put on this mum. At the end of the day she is the one having the baby, going through all the emotions she will having him, so why is not her her decision what name she wants. My grandson is called Jaxon and he is so beautiful, and it isnt a family name but that has not upset me the slightest.
My brothers name is James, my Uncle in Ireland is William so I think they are fine names anyway.
At the end of the day is up to mum and dad ( although you dont mention him) but tell your friend not to listen to anyone and go with the name she wants and likes.
After all its the parents decision and family should respect their wishes because its mum and dad who will be hands on 24 - 7 and in years to come will be asked (How did you choose my name) and they need to say "Its because we love the name not from peer pressure".
Tell your friend Good luck for tomorrow, relax and listen to what the experts tell her to do, and enjoy because it is a magical experience which she will treasure forever.

Jamal or Jamil (=beautiful) Jasper (= treasure bringer), Jolyon (=variant of Julian) Walid (=newborn) Wasim (=handsome) are some unusual names. However children with strange names can get teased. Jack is popular & I think Jamie is a nice name which you could spell Jaime if you prefer. Wyn isn't a bad name.Think how well the names will go with the surname before making a decision.
