Rubbing your jaw where the numbing agent was injected can help a little. But basically you will have to wait the 4 hours till it wears off. You will feel a tingling sensation almost akin to pain right before it wears off. This is the nerves "waking up" again. Its nothing serious.

rinse with warm/hot water and exercise your jaw right after. A hot bottle etc etc. stuff to get the blood flowing back into the area. All the injection does is stop the blood flow by constricting the blood vessels. I get over my numbness in about an hour by doing these techniques. Dont listen to those other guys that say it cant be stopped. It can. Try it. You'll see.

The numbness is caused by the local anesthetic that was injected to keep you from feeling pain during the dental work. It will wear off, and the timing is different for different people. Some people metabolize the drug more quickly than others.

There is no way to reverse those drugs, or make them disappear more quickly. Once it's injected, you're stuck with it until your body clears it.

Sorry.

Sensidyne or other such anti-sensitiviy toothpastes work well, though it may take a few days or more. Clove oil is excellent for instant pain relief. Ibuporfen is good, too, because it relieves inflamation and can really offer long term relief. I've used all of these.
