There is a good possibility he has feline leukemia or another feline disease. Outdoor cats tend to run higher risks because of stray unvaccinated cats getting into catfights and that can spread diseases very quickly. Have you been keeping your cat indoors during his treatment? if not he could just be getting into fights or scraping the wounds on bushes or something. Has he been neutered if not he could be getting into fights with other tomcats over a female. I would recommen testing him and that way you know for sure that is not the problem, and if he is negative I would strongly recommend vaccinating him for it to protect him in the future. If you have any other questions or have other information about whats going on you can email me. Hope this helps

Leukemia is a really bad possibility, but there is another one.
I had a cat with the same problem, but he was an indoor cat. He just kept scratching and licking himself and the cuts (usually on the neck) wouldn't heal for a long time. When we took him to the vet and asked why he hurt himself so badly the doc answered it's a natural thing as far as he doesn't meet other cats....it's the willingness to fight and prove he is the boss...sooo when there are no cats around he "fights with himself.....well I said it's a bulls**t and took him to another vet. He told us that this is a result from an immune system's illness which he got when he was a lil kitty. He gave my cat shots one daily bases for a month and more and nothing seemed to help. I hated this not because of the money we gave the guy but the fact that my beloved cat doesn't feel well. After some time he stopped eating....and I guess you get the point what happened afterwards. Whatever this is YOU SHOULD TAKE IT TO SEVERAL VETs if needed just to be sure and to hear more opinions!

I can only think of one other thing, diabetes. An animal doesn't have to be overweight to have it either. Symptoms are just like a humans and humans with diabetes have troubling healing from cuts. Ask your vet to test for this too. I had 4 cats at one time with Feline Leukemia, all have passed, but they mainly lost weight. One, who's b-day would have been today, passed at 16 back in 1996, we think he was a carrier since he had no symptoms till the end. The week before he passed, the vet asked to test him out of the blue and he had it. His weight had been fluctuating up to 10 pounds at a time for years prior to his death. He'd go from a huge 22 pounder to 10-12 pounds in a week, then suddenly as he lost it, he'd gain it back.
I hope you don't have other cats at home, if it's the Feline Leukemia, they're all at risk. It's contageous amoung cats.
I pray for your cat that's is neither of the two and it's only a stubborn cut.

Leukemia is possible. I hope you are keeping the cat inside while the injury is healing, Being outside will only make it worse. It is possible the antibiotics are not the proper strength or type. Have they cultured the wound? A leukemia test is a good idea, since it is an outside cat. Be a responsible cat owner and do whatever it takes to make it better.

Yeah, now must be the time to make certain the vet. an similar aspect got here about with my cat basically the former day, he were combating with another cat and his decrease wasn't healing, the former day it looked as if it would worsen so I took him to the vet. The vet basically gave him some pictures yet suggested if I hadn't of delivered him the decrease would have in all probability were given badly contaminated.

I'm afraid to say that my tuxedo cat had a scab on her nose that wouldn't heal. It kept dropping off (yuck) and it looked clean underneath but it kept growing back. It was skin cancer.
If you love your cat to bits like I did, and it is Lukemia, obviously, make sure. I'm sorry to say, ask the vet and have him put down right away. It's hard, but I made my cat suffer. It wasn't 'till one day she couldn't climb the stairs that my partner took her to the vet and she died on the way there. I feel so, so guilty.
Now I have another lovely cat who I love to bits!

The only way a cat can have leukemia is to be tested. Your vet suspects the disease because of his failure to heal. Have a purrfect year and may things go well.

Does it look clean? If it's clean, your cat is over licking it and needs a bucket round its head.
If it's messy, take it back to the vet and get something to clean the wound.
