Rules to follow for new poker players:
Texas Hold'em-
You will be given two cards to start. If you don't have a pair of 8's or better.......FOLD.
After a round of betting, they will put down three cards.
You are now playing with the two cards in your hand and the three on the table.
After a round of betting, they will put down one card.
You are now trying to make your hand with your five best cards.
This can be the two in your hand and three of the four on the table or One of the cards in your hand and all four on the table.
After another round of betting, they will put down one card.
Again you are trying to make your best hand using a total of five cards from your hand and what is on the table.
There is one last round of betting. Anyone who has not folded away their cards has to show them and call what five card hand you are plank with.
Bring a cheat sheet with what hands rank until you think you have it. You can buy a new deck of cards and there should be a cheat sheet inside waiting for you.
Play some on Yahoo Games if you don't feel comfortable. It is all play money.

Good Luck!

A pair (two of the same card) beats high (the highest card someone has, like two 5s beats an ace high) 3 of a kind (three of the same card) beats a pair. (like 3 7s beats 2 5s) Next is a straight (like 2,3,4, 5, and 6) This beats 3 of a kind (10,j,q,k,a beats 3 7s. Next is a flush (all of the same like all hearts) that beats straight. (If every card in your hand is one suit, like hearts, diamonds, clubs, or spades, you beat the 10.j,q,k,a) next is full house (a pair and 3 of a kind in one hand) This beats the flush (three 3s and two 4s beats a flush) Next is 4 of a kind (four of the same card, like 4 10s. This beats full house (4 As beats a full house) Next is 5 of a kind (5 if the same card, like 5 6s) You can only get 5 of a kind playing with jokers (you can choose what card a joker can be)( 5 2s beats 4 As) Next is a royal flush (it beats everything) It consits if the highest cards (10,j,q,k,A) and a flush (Ex: 10,j,q,k,A of hearts) If you have this in your hand, expect to win. This game is called 5 card draw, since players start out with 5 cards. You then discard any cards you don't need. You can only discard 3, unless you have an A (ace). you can discard every card in your hand if you have an A. Now, which card beats which: 3 beats 2, 4 beats 3, 5 beats 4, 6 beats 5, 7 beats 6, 8 beats 7, 9 beats 8, 10 beats 9, J beats 10, Q beats J, K beats Q, and A beats K. (A is considered 1 but it's the most valuable card) Hope this Helps!
