I know this sounds cruel, but its really not. There are such things as "bark collars" that either spray something like citronella in your dog's face when then bark, or shocks them when they bark. This is only supposed to be necessary for a short time, and then they start to learn. I personally have never tried this method, but it is supposed to work really well. Also, you could buy a small squirt gun and squirt your dog lightly every time they bark. I have tried this and it does work. Hope this helps!

A few suggestions: Biting when you sleep might just mean "hey, I'm awake, let's play" or "darn this teething - it's so painful". I suggest getting a crate for her and some nice hard rubber Kong toys to chew on while she gets through this.

Barking and whining can also be about not having your attention when you're enjoying your dinner. Something to chew on and a nice bed to lie in (on the other side of the dining room doorway, maybe?) could keep her occupied when you want some peace and quiet.

In general, it sounds like Time For Puppy Classes. She's not too young to start obedience training and learn to be a good housemate. Besides, puppy classes are great fun. Enjoy.

You do realize that you have to teach a dog the behavior you want from her, right?

Unfortunately, what you're describing is very typical puppy behavior. Goldens and labs can tend to be very active and excitable, so get used to it--it can take a long time to grow out of this stage.

The good news is with appropriate exercise, structure, and discipline, you can get your dog's behavior under control. Discourage the unwanted behavior with a consistent correction. And, sorry to say, I'm one of those people that doesn't feel bad for you if your dog bites you while you're sleeping: get the dog out of your bed and / or crate him overnight.

Crate training is an excellent way to train puppies about the appropriate times for potty, play and naps. Good luck!

She is still very young, and act as human babies do. To stop biting, every time when she tries to, tell her NO! but don't shout and give her a toy to chew. The barking and whining is because she is feeling lonely and tries to get your attention, or your company. Try putting a bottle of hot watter wrapped in a blanket in her basket, bed or where she sleeps. This substitutes her mother and makes her feel more secured. Other thing is to give her an old t-shirt of yours so she can "feel and smell you" when you aren't actually there. That helped with my puppy.

welll you can use a muzzle when she bites , but you need to know why she is doing this. Does she need to go out. does she need a treat. is something bothering her. I know a guy that slept 2 months on the floor with his dog until she was ok to sleep there alone. Dogs can't talk so they can only bite bark and whine.

You can't make the dog do anything, you have to train them. Check out some of the training books at the library or in a book store, they go from basic training and on into more advanced training.

Obedience classes teach you how to train your dog and is well worth partisapating.

Have a vet check your pet to make sure there are not underlying problems with her health. Discuss the problem with the veterinarian and see what he/ she recommends. Something is bothering your pet, either it's physical or emotional/ mental. Seeing a good vet is a good way to find out what's wrong. Good luck.
