I have a 6 year old Boarder Collie *****, she was once owned by a breader but had a large litter when she was about 18months. Due to a complication the breader had to have her spayed. So she was no good as a breeding dog thats how I managed to come bye her. The problem that she has is she can't stand any small yapie dogs barking at her. She has a tendancy to first go into the stalk and then charge, she has nipped on a few ocasions but fortunatly for me the other owner presumed that it was their dog who was the agresser. Unfortunatly she is doing this more and more often and not with just small dogs now. On the hole she is a very smart dog and for the most time she is very obediant. Is there anything that i should be doing to stop this small spat of aggresion in my dog.

you need to socialize her more and correct her when she goes into the stalk pose.

There are so many different ways to stop this but it is lengthy and you would be better off by getting a training book. Find one that says it is behavior modification and not method. You will want to modify her behavior and stop it the minute you see a sigh that she is going to attack.

One tool I have found that is very effective is to take a pop can and put a few pebbles in it so that it makes a lot of noise when shook. Put tape across the hole in the top and attach a bail to the top rim of the can. Make up 2 to 4 of these so that you don't have to go retrieve one each time you use it.

When you see that she is going to attack toss the can so that it will land close to her. When she hears the noise she will stop in her tracks. Like all training it will take repeated efforts to stop this behavior. Be sure to toss the can using the bail so she won't hear it coming. She will soon learn that every time she starts this that this god awful noise and you act like she just touched the last nerve and come unglued. Using a deep gruff voice, deep like a growl, yell NO________(her name). This works very good but you have to be consistent.

You should ask a friend that has a small dog or any size dog to meet you in a grassy field so no other dogs can get hurt. Carry a lot of treats, and when your dog does something good, then give it a treat. Make sure your dog is on a short leash and slowly approach your friend's dog. Let them sniff each other, and if your dog starts nipping, then hit her nose lightly. If she stops, give her a treat. After this, you might want to bring her to a dog park, and keep her on her leash. Do the same thing, but dont let her run around. Let other dogs come up to her so she gets used to having other dogs around.

hope i helped!

1) use a leash

2) keep her on a chain at all times

3) you are 100% responsible for her actions and if she hurts, damages or kills another animal, they have the right to sue you for damages

4) if she bites a human, the courts can order you to immediately have her put to sleep

Handle her with the utmost restraint and you will have to promptly become the alpha dog at all times, showing her that her actions will NOT be tolerated. Noone likes yappy mutts but, its no excuse for your dog being allowed to attack someone elses pet. Never hit her, if you find you need to punish her roll a newspaper up and swat her on the rear.

After a few times of that, the mere rolling of the newspaper will usually get a docile response out of her.

Carry a muzzle in your pocket when you take her for walks. If you see another dog or are in an area where there is a known small dog, put it on her. Either that or get her attention away from the other dog by giving treats or extra attention.

for starters, put a muzzle on her, one that she can still eat and drink, but wont be able to bite anyone. Get in a specialist to help train your dog. there is probably an underlying problem that an expert will pick up pretty quickly.
And most importantly, keep your dog on a lead so she cant run and attack other dogs

it sounds more like your dog wants to heard it away from you, its her natural instinct, when she doesnt like something she will nip at its legs to get it away but if she is yapping and nipping at the heals she is trying to heard it in your circle and have it around her more. all i can say is tell her no sternly when she goes to do it and clap your hands to distract her when she trys to go at the other dog is you see her doing this. If you dont catch her doing it and see the dog run away or growl and show its teath just call her to heal back to you and look her in the eyes and just say good girl but dont do that again and she may calm down a bit, hope I helped and good luck.

ok first of all if its on a lead it cant exsactally chase the other dogs.. and please dont think to yourself it's too strong for u too control by placing its back legs between your's its a border collie for god's sake! but if u spary it's nose with dilute lemon juice when it shows signs of going for another dog it wont attact .. after a while. or try massaging it between the shoulders when it starts to act up, its said to relax dogs but it doesnt work on my boxers.

Socialization with other dogs in a controlled environment. You don't want them to fight. If it starts to growl, bark or show their teeth to the other dog, then you need to reprimand the dog.
