Staffs Rule!!! I've just got a Staff Boxer cross and he's the most placid dog ever, he only barks when i'm in the house alone and he thinks he's sticking up for me if he hears a noise. My cousin has got a girl staff and she's a bit more hyper but never nasty. To all of you out there bad mouthing staffs and other dogs like these, think before you judge, most times smaller dogs are the nasty ones coz they've got an inferiority complex. Plus they are only what you bring them up to be I trust staffs 100%!

This is definitely an interesting idea the people of Boston and Newtown came up with to help calm patients and others in pain or in sadness, but it is a great one. If a happy, cheerful pet came into my home or hospital room to help me get through a tough time just like how the victims in Boston at the moment are experiencing, I'd smile and enjoy the company of a furry friend. Whenever I was upset, I'd go crying to my hamster. I had many other pets, but for some reason I was drawn to my hamster for comfort. Even though she was tiny and I was big, I felt that she was more calmer than usual when I cried and that made me feel better. There's just something about animals, I don't know what it is. But even though we can't have a real conversation with them, doesn't mean that we don't understand each other. I know this is going deep, but the eyes are the windows to the soul. Any living being can understand one another through our eyes.

I have 4 Staffords & nver had an incident where 1 of mine have bitten either a human or other dog. I have 3 kids too.
Staffords are known as the Nanny dog & are cited by the Kennel club to be totally realiable with children, they say that about 2 breeds only.
Staffords or any other breed can NOT lock there jaws, its a Myth!!
All of mine are Kennel Club registered & well bred. They have all been to training classes & they all know I'm the boss.
They are very loving affectonate dogs, Staffords are known to crave human attention. I trust Staffords 100%.
All of the bad press Staffords have is down to these muppets that think a dog makes them look hard!!
Ussually these dogs are badly bred, badly trained cross breeds.
Staffords are also known to make BAD Guard dogs, because the love people, they would lick a burgular to death because they would be just pleased to see him!!

I would trust a staffy over almost any other dog. I work at a vet clinic, and I have been bit by a lot of dogs, but never by an american pit bull terrier, a staffordshire terrier, or a staffordshire bull terrier. In fact, I have never met one who even growled. I have been bit by MANY jack russel mixes, Beagles, lhasa apsos, other small mixed breeds, and a Golden Retriever! We see a lot of pit bulls and staffies, and we are happiest to see them walk through the door because they usually have such a stable temperment, and are very easy to work with. It does irritate me that people judge the dog based on looks and news headlines (which are usually way over exagerated or completely Untrue!)

if you have brought it up right then yes!

Most people give staffys a bad reputation because they are related to dogs on the dangerous dogs act.

Then again, if a 5 year old girl hasn't been brought up by dogs, she'll hate them and start screaming when one come up to her in the park.

However if you get an rescued staffie, she might be dangerous because she has had a bad time in the past. Like if she was dognapped in a big truck, then she'll never like trucks again and she might turn hyper when she sees one.

The problem with rescue homes is they don't know what the dog has gone through in their past.

If she is fine with you, then she isn't dangerous. Just get an empty bottle and put stones in it and shake it when she does something bad and scream NO! then she should stop biting! And when she is good, spoil her and tickle her and comfort her.

In a earlier question I said I used to breed dogs. Really the answer is that it is how you bring a dog up and treat it. I have had workmen in all week and they all shook like jelly when they saw my eleven and half stone rottie, but he would lick you to death before he even thought of biting. I can put a baby between his legs when he is laying down , all he does is give the baby a wash with his massive tongue then go back to sleep, but beware a stranger trying to pick the babe up. I honestly say and bearing in mind I have bred dogs, there is no such thing as a bad dog, just bad owners of dogs. Long live the dog which if people out there haven't noticed is god spelt backwards.

Staffies are WONDERFUL dogs and anyone who gets rid of a puppy who nips should never, ever have a dog because all puppies nip. That's why they need responsible owners to teach them better.

People can be very ignorant and stupid when they don't bother to educate themselves. Unfortunately, everyone (and everything) else suffers.

No other dog has "nanny dog" in their AKC breed standard, either!

PS- Why do people post attacking dogs or other animals on the PET section of this forum??

To begin with, terriers are very bad dogs to get for first time dog owners. Terriers as a group are very independent and have a refined sense of justice (they will hold it against you for days if you scold them unjustly). They are stubborn and hard to train and are never as cuddly as a lab. (But that is why I love them). Many people who get a terrier aren't prepared for how hard they have to work to get a good dog. (A lot of people aren't prepared for the work they have to do to get a good lab either)

Add to that, there is an inherent prejudice against bully breeds. People see that bully smile and think they are looking at a dangerous dog. Many people never have any experience with a bully breed outside of the way the media portrays them.

This ignorance and unpreparedness is shown by the very fact that people are willing to get rid of a puppy because she nips. All puppies nip, regardless of breed. You aren't getting a fluffy animated toy, you are getting a living creature who has needs, wants, and will occasionally be bad. It is your job as their people-parents to civilize them and care for them (just like with people children).

And yes, I would trust a staffy before you Jack Russell terrier any day of the week (but I have yet to meet the Jack Russell that I do trust :) )

Hope this helps

I wish that everyone that has a negative attitude towards these dogs could spend just one hour with my doggy. Not only can he be trusted -he is friendly to adults, children and other animals, including cats. I have had him since he was a pup, I have raised him in a kind and loving environment so he is a kind and loving dog. Those who choose to turn these animals into vicious attackers should have their asses kicked. I love my dog and so does every single person that has ever met him-he goes to work with me every day and he is the greatest- people should think about how any animal is raised and the outcome of that raising before running their mouths about something of which they have no personal experience.

I have an English Staffy and he in not neutered, he is one of the best, friendliest dogs, I have ever owned. People are scared of staffies because of the media and ignorant people who portray them as killers. Staffies are bred to be people friendly, but people then also bred them to be dog aggressive, hence the pit bull fights. Staffies are wonderful with children of all ages, but have a horrible reputation which is undeserved.
