I thinking of reformatting. I've done it before but with a disc. My laptop never came with the Windows Media Center Edition disk and was already on it. So if I reformat, will I lose WMCE forever?

If your OS has a restore drive, then yes. All you have to do is burn the contents to a "restore cd", this will allow you to re-install Windows. There should be options at start->all programs->system tools->restore options.

If your pc has a cd recorder open the software which came with the pc and see if there is an option to "backup" your pc, If so burn the disk and load it up to chek its working, (you will probably get a window asking if you want to add new software components or restore) That will be your OS restore disk

these days anything that used to come on disk is now on a partition. which would be your D drive letter. you should be able to run the set-up on the D drive and should do all the formatting and such for you as it would if putting in the cd and running the set-up program.
