I read that online today when I was explaining to my mother why I would no longer eat pork (and why she shouldn't eat it either), and I was wondering if it's true. Because she just bought some pork and as she's cooking it, I'm considering pouring some Coke on (what would have been) my piece, so that hopefully by the time it's done, some little worms are crawling on it and she WON'T eat it! GROSS!

Thanks!

OmG that is sickening! I wouldn't even want to see such a thing! I don't eat pork either. Pigs are extremely dirty, they eat anything, including their own poop. Plus, pork is the meat that's closest to human flesh and I just feel like pork is never cooked enough. Just the smell makes me feel ill.

I've heard that if you take a Mcdonalds burger patty and put it in the microwave that tiny white things will come out! I'm so grossed out right now.

No. Our pork is raised in this country using so many antibiotics and such. Cook the pork and drink the coke. If you are worried about little worms, put a lot of rum in your coke.

Not unless it's fresh and actually has worms in it. That's really very rare nowadays. Pork slaughterhouses aren't pretty places, but they are nicer than the muddy holes that pigs live in with their own and human waste in some third world countries, and most industrially raised pigs get loaded with medicines and de-wormers to prevent them making us sick. Coke makes a tasty glaze for ham, though :)

No, I don't think so.
If you're worried about worms, just be sure to cook all your meat thoroughly. But it's really quite rare nowadays to get parasites from farm-raised meat of any kind. E. Coli & Salmonella bacteria are much more common & pose a greater threat. But they, too can be killed by proper cooking.

no, don't be simple minded. this is an urban myth. the only thing pouring coke on pork will do is make a tasty sweet sauce for it...

if you want to avoid pork for religious reasons, fine, or for dietary reasons, that's up to you (especially since lean pork has less saturated fat than beef, and is comparable to dark chicken or turkey meat).

In reference to Caramella's answer, chickens eat their own feces too. And what do you think makes the grass so green that cows eat?

And guess what some fertilizer is made out of that they make vegetables grow faster?

Some "food for thought."

From what I have learned there is one sort of parasite or bacteria found on all raw food not just meat. Cook it well as you would any meat, fowl or seafood.

That can't be true, but it is true that pork is unclean.
