I began taking Adderall a few days ago for ADD/ADHD and I have noticed my resting heart rate has significantly increased. While my resting heart rate, when I am not on Adderall is around 60-65 bpm, my heart rate on the drug is 100-120 bpm. Should I be worried? Will my heart eventually pump at its normal rate? Should I avoid exercise?

Check with your doctor. My son's heartrate was elevated on Adderall and he was taken off, but each situation is different and only your doctor can advise.

Adderall is a stimulant, so one of the potential side effects is increased heart rate. It's expected for stimulants to cause a modest increase of about 3-6 bmp, and a little above that is still considered a normal reaction. An increase of 40 bpm is a lot.

You should talk to your doctor about this as soon as possible. In the mean time, definitely avoid physical exercise. It's unlikely that it's dangerous for someone your age to have a heart rate in that range for a few days, but prolonged elevated heart rate can cause serious cardiovascular complications. Your doctor will be able to determine whether what you're experiencing is within a safe range.

absolutely that is what is to be expected. Adderall is nothing but speed, that's what speed does. It is dangerous, as is all speed. You should insist that the doctor try you on a relatively new drug called Stratera - it is for ADHD, is not addictive, and (most importantly) isn't speed.

This is normal and you shouldn't exercis untill your heart rate comes back down to normal.
