Perhaps your pharmacist can tell you why the Veteran's Administration hospitals all still stock quinine sulphate in their pharmacies?

I used Quinine for leg cramps. In December 2006 my Doctor told me that the FDA found that the side effects of this drug, mainly death, out weighted the benefits of the drug. My Father is a Doctor and he said that drugs that are approved by the FDA are often "pulled off the self". After a certain period of time it has been found that the side effects, that were not really known at the time the drug was approved, have surfaced and statics are complied. If the statics show that the drug has caused adverse reactions that out weight the benefit of the drug the FDA will discontinue the drug. In the case of this medication, for some unknown reason, there has been a number of deaths associated with the usage of this drug. That is why it has been pulled off the self. This has only been recent, December 2006. You can still get this drug through Canada where they do not follow United Stated FDA Rules. I would not suggest doing this because of adverse side effects which the use of this drug could cause. Canada is more liberal on approved drugs and not not have the safe guards that the FDA has here. Please Do not go through Canada. I only mention this because if someone tells you to get the drug from Canada, please do not do this. Taking this drug over a period of time has also been proven by the FDA to cause other side effects. Many drugs are pulled after they have been on the market even years because it has been found that a drug taken every day over a long period of time can cause adverse reactions. I would ask your Doctor what an alternative medication you can take that will give you the same relief.

Eat 1-2 bananas per day or 1-2 swigs of molasses - you are low on magnesium and potassium.
There is a book that teaches about muscles, pain and referred pain anywhere in the body. The principle is that the muscles get knots called trigger points which make the muscles tight that then press on nerves. It teaches how to get them to release which gets rid of the pain.
The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.
I also use a chiropractor and massage therapist as needed.
