I have had a lack of direction pretty much up until now as to an idea of what I want to do when I get out of school. I am a sophmore in highschool and now I have some ideas. The problem is, up until now I have been slacking in my grades. If I turn them around and get straight A's from now through the two years at my local college, (yes I am capable of that), would I be able to get nominated for West Point?

West Point is one of, if not THE toughest military academies to get into, its possible on a long shot but hey go for it.

West Point, more than any other school is going to look at the whole student, i.e. disciplinary record, extra curricular activity and your grades better be strait A. Someone below mentioned JROTC, that will definitely work in your favor. Remember the legacy of West Point, Generals Lee, Grant, "Stonewall" Jackson, Longstreet, J.E.B. Stuart, Eisenhower, MacArthur, Patton, etc. That's just a hand full of people that are permanent parts of history, there are MANY more that you have and haven't heard of. In your pursuit of a West Point nomination, they aren't going to want to tarnish this reputation for anyone! This list is to give you an idea of the legacy you need to compete with to get in and graduate.

If you have the good grades in high school: A and B and go straight to an academy that you may be nominate by Congress and/or West Point.

Isn't there an obscure technicality that says that a person under extra ordinary circumstances can be nominated by a recipient of The Congressional Medal of Honor, or by a Senator or Congressman?

if you go enlisted first, then apply to westpoint, you are almost guarenteed to get in. they are required to accept a certain amount of enlisted soldiers each year. the thing is, if you have a degree, you can go officer right off. west point is a very hard college though and should be thought over very hard before going.
