we live in CA, and sooo many of his little friends have it done, I think that's why he wants it. He would only get a small earring in one ear on the lobe

A 9 year old? Eh, I dunno. I live in California too, and I know it's common here for kids to get things pierced at young ages. In my family, us girls get our ears pierced at just a couple months old.

I think it depends on the kid. And I mean, it's JUST an ear piercing...it can be taken out at any time and the holes in ears close up easily and usually don't leave scars. So I dunno. I'd probably make him wait like 3-6 months and see if he STILL wants it done by then...then maybe I'd let him. Although 9 still seems a bit young to me? If he were 12, I'd say "no problem". Maybe I'd tell him to wait till he's at least 10.

I wouldn't like it. But you have to pick your battles. Is there something that he could work on to show you he is mature enough? grades or chores or something? I guess I would tell him that he had to wait a few years, so that he is old enough to care for the piercing so that it does not get infected. Does he want to play sports? My kids school won't let them wear any earrings in Phy Ed. Too many kids getting torn ears. Boys and girls. Hope this helps.

If my son wanted that, I'd let him do it. But before I let him do it, I would tell him about the pro and cons about having an ear pierce. If he still wants it, just let him experience the pain of getting a piercing. Plus piercings and heal up when he doesn't want it anymore. Piercing is one thing, tatto is another....

I would say no but I would give your son the option that if he can come up with a valid argument as to why he should be allowed to get his ear pierced then I would allow it. I mean other than because its cool or all my friends are doing it.

NO WAY! I can't stand to see little boys with their ear's pierced! I'd tell him when he's 18 and out of my house then he can do what ever he wants but until then he's living under my rules and there is no way I'd let him pierce his ears!

I would. The way I look at it is that a girl gets their ears pierced. It is no less painful for them. A lot of boys are circumcised. Most have gotten stitches. It isn't going to hurt him. There is no reason not to let him.

my brother got his ears pierced at age ten he is now 16 and a very helpful caring young man. a piercing will not change your child for the worse. make a day of the occasion. let him think about it for a while though make sure that he know that it is really what he wants after you think that it is OK.

I would let my son do that. As far as things go an earing is a minor thing. there a million things that he could be out there doing that would be bar worse. If you allow some of the little things that aren't harmful maybe he'll steer clear from the things that really matter cuz he'll know that if you say no it's for a good reason. That's just how I would look at it.

I really think that its only up to you and your husband on whether he gets one or not, but for my family it would be a no. I would tell my son that when he gets 18 and if he still wants one, then I would support him. Usually kids just want whats popular for the moment and I'm sure it will pass before long anyways.
