it is all right to give canned food sometimes but the best thing would be dry....i recommend Science Diet kitten formula....it provides everything a kitten needs to grow up healthy and strong and provides nutrients that kittens need that are not available in adult cat food...this will cut down on allergies later on in life...and even the finickiest kittens will eat it....feed her 2 times a day....you can set your own schedule but try to always feed her at the same times every day...this will cut down on hairballs and throwing up. good luck! take lots of pictures! you can never take enough kitten pics and when they grow up you will say "why didn't i take more pictures?"

Easiest answer? NOTHING other than food meant for kittens. Cats are obligate carnivores which means they should only be eating meat - not bread, vegetables, fruit, candy, etc. If you "must" give your kitten a treat then just give it small pieces of unseasoned chicken or turkey - that's it. How old are your kittens? If they're less than six to eight weeks they should still be nursing. After they're weaned they need to fed a high protein food made specifically for kittens or one of the high end "all life stages" foods like Innova Evo or Blue Buffalo Wilderness. Do not give them foods bought at the grocery store - they're crap. And don't feed them cheap foods meant for cats because they don't have enough protein and fat for a growing kitten.

Once you take the kitten to the vet ask him. Until you get there buy some good kitten food. Not stuff from the supermarket. Good cat food is a little high priced. However the low cost of good health is better. Mix dry and wet do not give them just wet, it will take you for ever to get them off it later. Please make your kitty an in door kitty. Have fun with your new baby.

It's very important that she have the same food she has been eating since she was weaned. The adjustment to her new home is enough for now and you don't want to risk tummy upsets at first.
There is a lot of good information about cat nutrition and diet at www.littlebigcat.com. You might want to read Dr. Hovfe's articles titled, "Before You Get a Kitten" (that's about adjustment and veterinary care), "How to Care for Your New Kitten", "Selecting a Good Commercial Pet Food", "Switching Foods" (for later), "Vaccination", "What Cats Should Eat", "Why Cats Need Canned Food"
I would bet this will cover just about everything you need to know right now. Have fun with her!

Go with a good brand - Iams or Science Diet are my faves. I fed my cats Iams kitten for their first year and they are on the Iams Multi Cat now.
I only give my cats wet food once or twice a week as a special treat (They get really excited when I go in that cabinet). For that, I give them Fancy Feast.
Both cats have shiny coats and are healthy so I trust the food is doing a good job of maintaining their health.

Any good high quality dry kitten food will do..That should be fed free choice. Can kitten food should not be fed often.Once you start your kitten on what ever food you choose, it should stay on the same food till you are ready to go to adult cat food and then it should be mixed and fazed out ....

SCIENCE DIET KITTEN! It's more expensive than the food you can buy in a grocery store (need to go to Petco or Petsmart for it) but it is the best food you can give your new 'baby'. I have 3 kitties and they eat Science Diet all the time.

I would stick with dry food. It is less smelly and it lasts in the cat's dish longer. For a kitten you want to start with kitten food. That's because the pieces are smaller. Kitty's are great. You'll love her.

its best to ask what the kitten is being fed on now, then you can get the same thing, and it is less likely to get the runs and make a mess (i take it that kitten is not litter trained_ and a change of diet can make a cat's bowel movements go wrong temporarily
