I am a military wife.... a army wife at that... My husband was in the marines... Love the marines!!!! Once a marine always a marine... But I really like him in the army now... Better attitude and temper. If he goes into the Marines he needs to be very sure about it. The Marines are no joke!!!!! They are the hardest branch and it will all depend on how dedicated and sure he is about the military. Weigh your options!!!

I took the ASVAB and scored 91. I was going to join the army when I was first looking into the military, but after getting more information I found out that in the navy you can increase you rank faster than the army. I debated between the navy and the marines because they both seemed like the better options vs the army. I know someone in all branches. The coast guard is also a good one.
I guess it just depends on him. Does he like the idea of water and a ship or would he like the airforce and planes. What does he specificially want to do in the military? Start with some basic things he wants out of his career in the military.... once he does that he can start eliminating the options that are there.

You should definitely NOT just stick to one branch of the military. Explore your options & don't listen to everyone's stories. Not everyone likes to be in a whatever branch if they have been treated unfairly. The biggest things you need to look at though, are the benefits of being active duty compared to reserve or national guard & the enlistment bonus along with education advancements for you & your family. Im in the National Guard & am proud to be such. I had a 1 year old son when I enlisted so that was a HUGE decision maker for me. Just listen to the recruiter & dont let them intimidate you or belittle another branch b/c we are all fighting for the same thing. Wouldnt that be freedom? But don't be narrow minded & give up if one says no. There are waivers for ALMOST anything. Not all but things but some things are waiverable.

It's true, they will try to get you in, try to talk to actual military members and not people that aren't directly in. The recruiters will try to get you to leave when it's convenient to them, but keep in mind that until the training is finished, you're not in yet. I was in the navy for 6 & I'm telling you now that the military makes families suffer, and plus, if you don't attend school while you're in & decide to get out, your experience doesn't stand a chance even to someone that has no experience. Take your time & have him/yourself talk to a person that's currently in the branch and job rate that he wants to get into. Your recruiter's only good for getting you in, but once you are, you're under whomever's incharge of the next command.

Think about the mission-purpose of each service.
Army foot soldiers, tanks, ground warfare. All members are doing or supporting that mission.
Navy Ships, at sea, Maintaining the Ship, cleaning the ship, firing the guns of the ship, sailing the ship. All members of this service supports the ship and the people sailing the ship.
Air Force mission, to provide Air Support, fly planes, support pilots, aircraft.
Air Force wins hands down!, then Navy. Army is a distant LAST
I am a Retired Army Enlisted

Marines
Tell him Army stands for Ain't Ready to be a Marine Yet.
I'm a Marine (if you haven't guessed yet) tell him to speak with all the recruiters, and no they don't lie I served for eight years, NOTHING he told me was a lie, I'm sure there are a few that will stoop that low but there aren't many. Again, go to all of them and see what they have to offer. Than he will be able to make a more well informed decision

It really depends on what your boyfriend wants to do with his life, what kind of job he wants, and how he wants to serve his country. Talk to recruiters from all the services and find out which one you like the most from that.

AIR FORCE!
Air Force provides the best quality of life, best training, best job choices, fewest war deployments, best education opportunities.
The Navy might be fun for a single guy for one tour...but for a family...or if considering making it a career...the Air Force is the only logical choice.
