Hi there. My daughter is 2 and a half years old. I decided to send her to nursery last October for 2 evenings a week so she could have some fun and begin interacting with other children. She absolutely loved it. Unfortunately her immune system did not. Not only did she pick up a cold (every week!) she had an awful vomiting bug, dose of the runs, eye infection throat infection, chest infection. It was ongoing for 2 months. 2 weeks before xmas my poor little girl was so run down and ill that even the doctor advised me to take her out of the nursery for a while. She hasnt been back since. I do feel guilty because she loved it so much but is it really worth it if they get sick so much. I breastfed her for almost 5 months exclusively. So I was a little bit disappointed that her immune system wasnt fighting off all of these germs! like they tell you happens when you breast feed!! Maybe in a year or so we will try again. See how things go then.

Its very common after starting nursery we also find within a week of being back at school after the holidays they tend to pick up colds and bugs, as they get older their immune system will be stronger and they wont get as many colds

For the first few years they are building up their immune systems. You gave her a good boost by nursing, but she needs to catch all those germies so her body can learn to fight them. If you stayed at home with her for the first 2 years, she didn't have as much exposure to colds etc. Even regular playdates aren't the same as daily, prolonged contact with many children.

totally normal..when mine first started pre k at age 3 i swear she had a runny nose from day 2 of school till christmas break then the first day back till summer vacation...mine is now 4 and still gets the runny nose on a weekly basis...this is helping to build her immune system..personally i do not feel the lack of breastfeeding on my part is a cause for this

This is completely normal. My daughter did the same thing when she started daycare. Her doctor said she developed allergies from certain things at daycare (mainly the dust). But she always has the sniffles and this is perfectly normal she will grow out of it. No worries!

And soon it'll be chickenpox, measles etc. Try giving her plenty of vitamin C, thats supposed to help ward off colds etc. and what your body doesnt use it just flushes out, so she cant overdose on it.
