what people are not understand is that getting sunlight is giving you vitiam D, which helps you prevent cancer. Yes there is other things from sunlight that can cause it but thats why you where certain lotions to protect you from A and B rays. Indoor tanning is fine, as long as you dont stay in longer than what they suggest, and do it slowly, getting a tan is really good for you and helps you from getting brunt, but some do it too fast, start going in once every three days for five mins, make sure to wear the right eye wear to protect your eyes, which they will have there for you, as well as the right tanning lotion which they will help you at the store. After two weeks you can increase your time and days you go in.

Tanning indoors or outdoors have just as much risk the difference is that when you do it indoors you can control the exposure that you have to the uvb and uva rays. If you have a very fair complexion you want to make sure you only go for a few minutes to start out depending on the bed. Different beds have different times you can stay in for, for example if you are using a 20 min bed to start do not go longer than 8 - 10 mins for at least the first 2 or 3 times you can increase your time in 2 min increments until you get the color you desire. Be sure to use a good tanning lotion as this will help keep your skin moisturized and will help you tan faster and maintain your tan for a longer amount of time. once you have built a base tan you can cut back to once or twice a week to maintain your color. The employees at the tanning salon should be trained in helping you if you are a first time tanner. have fun tanning just be very careful not to burn.

It is definately NOT better than being outside; even if you do it in moderation, it will have harmful effects. You don't have to be tan to be beautiful!! If you don't go out in the sun and you don't use beds but your friends do, just keep in mind that although you might not look exactly like them, in a few decades THEY will be dealing with age spots, leathery skin, etc. and generally look much older then they are, while YOU will look your age or younger!! Not tanning now might be going against the norm, but it will keep you looking young and healthy your entire life, just like not smoking does!! :) Not to mention cancer; I am very pale and I used to sit outside sometimes, but then I had to get a pre-cancerous mole removed from my leg and now I have a permanent red scar, and I'm only 19. A sunburn and a tan are both damaging. I can't stresss it enough, the lasting effects are not worth damaging your skin.
Anyway, try a mystic tan(spray tan) or a gradual daily tanning lotion, and use a light goldened toned powder on your face. Good luck!

Those things will damage your skin later on down the road. They had a segment on Rachel Ray this morning on skin damage done to a woman from using the tanning bed 5 days a week,, plus is a smoker. They showed her what she would look like iin her 50's if she didn't start stop using the bed or con't to use it as much as she does. She used tanning excellerator instead of lotions. It gave her the fright of her life. When tanning use natural sun and apply lotions every 30 minutes. Make sure your lotions have UVB and UVA protection. This comes from the advice of the dr who was a guest on the show. GOOD LUCK.

Indoor tanning is actually worse that tanning outdoors. By the time you are 40 a lot of people develop sun spots and wrinkly skin. I know someone who tanned a lot when they were younger and they have a ton of freckles. I guess the best thing to do is try and tan outdoors but always where a tanning oil with some sunscreen.
Good Luck!!

Indoor tanning, like anything else, is bad for you if not done in moderation. As long as you start slow, use the proper moisturizers and don't over do it, it's actually better for you than going out in the sun and burning. You get controlled doses of UVA and UVB, depending on which type of bed you choose. If you're planning on being in the sun this spring and summer, it's better to get at least a base tan so that you don't fry when you're outside (although whenever you're outside, you must ALWAYS use sunblock!).

Tanning beds fry your ski, fry ur brain, eyes, organs, nails, they are not good for any part of your body, if u use it consistently though you can develope certain kinds of cancer like melanoma(deadly skin cancer) and what would u rather be pale? Or have Scars all over your body, where they cut of the cancerous skin. Also tanning beds are addictive, u can't let them go

inside is much better than outiside for tanning, and try a triple bronzer after you have tanned 10 times for your basic tan, it makes you look darker and stays longer.....and once a wek wont help
you need to go at least 3 times a week till you get your base tan, then twice there after.....start out with lke 5 minutes, and work up to 20 after you get tan

Okay, I heard that indoor tanning is just as bad as sunbathing outdoors. Try the spray-on tans, and if that doesn't work be proud of your skin just the way it is.
