Jesus was clearly a man. He was born a male, was called a son, and grew up into manhood.

However, Jesus was not trapped into the American "macho jerk" image of manhood; I doubt that any first-century Middle Easterner was. Although most men of that time treated women like property, men at that time were allowed to have feelings, cry, hug each other, etc. Some men at least were expected to be creative, like King David who wrote songs, without that creativity detracting from their projection of their manliness.

Although women do give life without giving birth, they cannot do so without men and man's seed (although the Virgin Mary did it with the Holy Spirit's help). So, men have a key role in providing life, too.

Although God is traditionally called "He" and "Father" and "Lord", God is neither man nor woman. In fact, a couple of times in the Bible God says "I am not a man..." (I believe, though, he means, "I am not a human being." This, of course, is before Jesus is incarnated into humanity.) In Proverbs, the Spirit of Wisdom is depicted as female. Some people think Wisdom is the preincarnated Jesus (that is, Jesus before he is born). You might say that even the Christ has his inner woman!

1 Samuel 15:29 (NIV)
"He who is the Glory of Israel does not lie or change his mind; for he is not a man, that he should change his mind."

Job 9:32
"He [God] is not a man like me that I might answer him,
that we might confront each other in court."

Hosea 11:9 (NIV)
"I will not carry out my fierce anger,
nor will I turn and devastate Ephraim.
For I am God, and not man—
the Holy One among you.
I will not come in wrath."

No, Jesus is often times referred to as the son of God, it is very clear about what gender Christ was while living.

No, Jesus was a man. However, Mary, his mother, embodies many of the life-giving qualities that we typically associate with women.

The feminine aspects of God are also represented by Wisdom.

Jesus is a mother, father, sister, brother, aunt, uncle, cousin anything you want 'him' to be. As long as you know who He is and what he stands for. But if you refer to the Bible it doesn't say anything about him being a woman.

Jesus is a man, the matriarchy need was satisfied by Mary.

I've never heard of any evidence (barring fictional novels) that Jesus was female. Why worry about it?
