Use fabric softener when you wash your clothes, also rub a drier sheet on the inside of your coat if it has a fleece or wool lining.

If you still build it up just touch something metal now and then to discharge it but fabric softener should do the trick.

Keep your car keys in your hand, hold one firmly and touch the door knob with the key first. This will discharge the static electricity through the key rather than your hand.

When you come in, touch something metal with the back of forearm (less nerves = less shock)

the lightswitch cover (unless plastic) is a good one or a fawcet.

your clothes rubbing in the dry cold air causes you to build up a charge - need to ground it out to get rid of it.

to keep static down in house - keep humidity up

Yup, touch something metal and your current will discharge and run to ground.

That's what I do. I also found it varies depending on the shoes I wear.
