Why would some people say it's okay? And why would some say it's wrong because it's incest?

Not a first cousin. A second cousin it wouldn't be incest because you're distant relatives. So as long as you both can emotionally deal with the fact that you're still technically cousins, I don't see anything wrong with it.
But in this case, more so than any other time:
There is other fish in the sea. Leave your cousin alone.

It's considered incest if their not at least a 3rd cousin. First and second are a no, no. Even a third as far as I'm concerned would be gross.
